coffee...caffienated or not?
My research has been in medical journals and posted here extensively. I'd appreciate if you'd respond to the research instead of making veiled accusations about its veracity. Keep in mind also that not all the centres restrict caffeine. TWH allows it during optifast and immediately post-op without any restrictions - so I am also going my my centres directives and encouraging others with it as well.

I guess it depends on whether you can find things you enjoy that are caffeine free. I enjoy a number of fine teas that don't come in a non-caffeinated form. I would hate to have to give that up, and I'm glad my centre doesn't require it (given that there is no medical evidence to suggest this is necessary).

My clinic allows us caffeine while on Optifast and then again at 2 days post op as day 1 is water only. I love regular coffee and was happy they allowed it. I don't buy into the whole caffeine irritates the stomach like sandpaper. Been drinking a lot of coffee every day for the last 30 years and have never had an ulcer or any other stomach problems.
In the immediate post op period, I had no caffiene. I asked the NUT at my 6 month check up if it was ok to reintroduce it. She said that it was fine as long as I didn't overdo it and also to make sure I listen to my tummy. If it gets angry, cut back LOL.
For the first months though, caffiene was on the definite NO list from my NUT due to the risk of ulceration.
