Is it ok to take post surgery? Do they work? I drink so much water and I barely go to the bathroom I feel that my tummy is really bloated and I think it's water.

they would need to be prescribed by a doctor. Usually they're indicated when you have severe swelling of the feet, or if fluid is collecting in your lungs, due to a heart condition. In a normal, healthy individual, there's no need for them.

if you want to know if you're retaining water, measure what you take in, and what you put out (so, measure your urine).

If you take them, when they're not prescribed, you're at risk for dehydration and electrolyte imbalance, which can lead to heart problems and other difficulties.

You really need to watch Over the counter stuff. The "water" pills they sell of the self can cause you harm. Our systems are balanced delicately. Taking a diuretic without having your potassium, sodium monitor can lead to heart problems etc... I would stay far far away from it unless prescribed by your doctor. Water just passes through. If you are not peeing then talk to your Doc

Water pills are a prescription medicine.  I had been on them along with a blood pressure medication, however, due to excessive diarrehia the first week of Optifast I was taken off of them.  I have not been back on them since.

How far out from surgery are you?

I would suggest that you contact the NP in your Bariatric Centre and ask this question.

I was on water pills prior to surgery (swelling in the feet) and I continued on them post op due to swelling in my feet.  Talk to your doctor.
