Imaging labs

Does anyone know of an imaginge lab in the GTA that can accommodate larger patients (equipment of at least a 500lbs rating)?

My family phsycian and I are having trouble finding a local lab that can accommodate me and right now it is the roadblock in finalizing a surgery date.

I need to get an echocardiogram and a nuclear stress test (medically induced, not the treadmill), and unfortunately because I'm closer to 500lbs than 450lbs a couple local clinics will not allow it due to limitations on their equipment.

Dr. Gagner's office is also trying to help out, but that is a little difficult due to the Quebec/Ontario situation.  They are looking at private alternatives, but OHIP covered facilities are obviously much preferred.

Any help or suggestions are greatly appreciated.

You'd think that Dr. Gagner would know. Strange. Hope you find a place soon.

I suppose this is one of the luxuries you lose out on when having surgery with a surgeon who is out of province/country.  His support staff (Veronique), is doing her best to come up with alternatives, but so far neither they, my family physician or I have come up with anything.

Although after I posted this this morning I contacted Village East Medical in Pickering via email.  I was supposed to have a gastroscopy there, but they felt it better to have it down in a hospital setting.  I'm suspecting that sleep apnea might cause a problem yet again though.

Shot in the dark but what about hospitals that perform weight loss surgery?

ETA: How about contacting Dr. Yoni Freedhoff - he's an obesity specialist in Ottawa - he may know of hospitals that could accomodate you.

Unfortunately that doesn't seem to be the case (at least as far as I was told).

While I was at TWH I was told their equipment would not accommodate me for a stress test.

Right now all my eggs are in the Village East Medical clinic I mentioned above.  But I have the sneaking suspicion that sleep apnea will be problematic.

Unfortunately when you are one of the larger bariatric patients getting these tests are still such a pain in the ass as much of the equipment has weight strictions that don't go past 400-450lbs.  And medical clinics won't budge on the matter for a multitude of reasons (risk of injury, damage to the equipment, and accountability).

I would try Toronto General Hospital - they are part of the University  health network. and a major cardiac center.  Being as they have numerous hospitals under their control in the Toronto area, they should have one to accommodate you or suggest where to go. I would have thought you would have more success with hospital departments versus private places. I had mine at Credit Valley Hospital in Mississauga.  They have a brand new department so maybe the machines are new too.  Mississauga Trillium in Mississauga is also a cardiac hospital that you may want to call.  Good luck.

There was another member on here that was too large for many of machines and I believe she had to go to Ottawa to get the tests done. OHIP does send some people out of province and out of country for testing if they have to.

Thanks for the info Tracey.  Hopefully it doesn't come down to this.  Travelling for medical related stuff sucks.  I can deal with lengthy travelling if something recrational is waiting for me on the other side, lol.

My fingers are crossed with the clinic in Pickering, but I'm really concerned (as was aforementioned) that my sleep apnea is going to pose some sort of problem.  I cannot wait until I'm rid of that...such a pain in the ass.  Only beneficial thing about it is that my CPAP machine protects me from getting colds.  I get a cold once every other year now (like clockwork).
