RNY on 05/02/12

Hi there,
I have a friend who had Rny a year ago. Today she sent me a message on facebook to suggest I get something called Nioxon. She got it on ebay. She said "it's the only thing that stopped me from loosing my hair." She got it on Ebay

It claims to :

Gives a more youthful-looking scalp and fuller, healthier looking hair. Transactive Delivery System delivers essential nutrients onto the scalp which improves the appearance of thinning hair and creates an environment for fuller, healthier looking hair.

Has anyone tried this? It costs about $50

Her friend swears by 1000mcg daily of biotin.

Some people say nothing will help but time. It is a normal body response of shifting resources as it adapts to a rapidly changing body. Any personal experiences to share?
I am still a couple of months away from surgery, just getting things planned.
Thanks,
Heather

My surgeon said that it is the normal body reaction, said it starts at about 3 months post op and stops at about 6. He said nothing would change that and I believe him. I have started and stopped at those timeframes, and in between my hairdresser said she could see all of the new tiny little hairs coming in. I did buy something from the hair cutting place in Walmart that gives the illusion of thicker hair and it did give that appearance.
good luck..

Go to one of the stores that sells hairdressing supplies, can't think of the name right now, as I'm in Nicaragua, but I used it and it was fine. But I also took Biotin and still do, but don't use the shampoo anymore. Buying from the salon stores is a lot cheaper.
Might even be able to get it at Shoppers Drug Mart by now too.

You can't affect hair loss by applying anything to the scalp. It's just going to happen.

It's expensive and I don't think it did any good whatsoever for me unfortunately.  I also took biotin for a month or so before surgery and a year after.  I don't think that helped either.  I lost hair from about 6 months to a year.  It's all good now.

The loss of hair is your body's response to trauma. there is nothing you can put ON your hair to prevent loss. The loss happens to the root, there's nothing you can do to prevent it.

After surgery, and the subsequent dietary changes, your body goes into survival mode, and puts its energy toward necessary functions. Hair, apparently, isnt a necessity.

You should concentrate on getting good nutrition, and being kind to your hair, to prevent breakage.

I wouldn't spend the money. For me it started at 3 months as predicted and lasted about 3 months or so.
I noticed a lot of hair in the drain when I showered and it was scary. My hair seemed a lot thinner but no one noticed not even my hairdresser.

Just one of the things you go through.
