FREAKING OUT -HELP!
I started opti today and just got a phone call that my sleep study showed moderate to sever sleep apnea. They want me to go to the clinic tonight to get set up with a machine!!! OMG! What the heck! Is this going to post-pone my surgery? Somebody help me...there's no one home or to call right now....anyone out there?

Relax, you'll be fine. They don't just give you the machine and tell you to figure it out. They'll set you up with how you need it, and you'll be fine. I've heard a number of people only use it a short while after surgery, but be tested before you take yourself off.
And as Monica said, take it to the hospital with you, you'll need it there.

it's so funny, Cathy, i brought my machine with me, and they had their technicians check it out (as per policy) and i got it to my room, and i couldnt use it, because the nose piece was missing. I thought it was irretrievably lost, but found it in my bed linens when it was time to leave. So, i had it there, but coudlnt use it! lol. THey just made sure i had O2 on all night instead.

Yeah, I got my sleep machine right away at the follow up appointment to the test when I got my results, and then the second sleep study was just to adjust it to the correct air pressure.
I have no idea whether this postpones your surgery or not since I'm too early in the process to know that, but I was able to get my CPAP machine right away after they diagnosed me with sleep apnea.

Thank you everyone....I'm calming down. I'm making a lot of phone calls and hopefully all will be fine. Debbie at Dr. Aarts office said she would have her review it this afternoon after she's out of sugery...fingers crossed that no changes are made to my surgery date!
Nothing like stress on the first day of Opti!!! lol

Not to worry. I have or had the same problem and have been using my CPAP for 2 years. They will set you up. I personally like the nasal pillows for a mask as they sit just at the nostrils. If you are a mouth breather they may give you a mask that sits over nose or mouth or just your nose.
It can take a little getting used to. Just remember you can try different masks.
ADP funding will cover $750 towards the machine. If you have private insurance they ususally cover the rest. You may not even need it long term as you lose the weight the apnea may go as well. It doesn't all the time but it wil get better.
I have had a cold the past few days and have not been able to use my CPAP as my nose is sore and I miss the sound. I felt so much better when I started CPAP. It can take a few months to feel the real benifits depending on the time you have been sleep deprived. I also had ++ problems with my BP and once I started CPAP it dropped right down to normal.
Let me know if you have any questions. I also found www.cpap.com a good resource as well.
