I may be going out for dinner tonight with friend and going for Chinese.  What would you guys recommend I eat rather than other things?  I had the VSG, if that helps any.

I have stayed away from chinese food because people say there are so many hidden calories.  Cant wait to see what the people who know say, good question.

Shrimp and veggies steamed or stir fried (ask them to limit the oil).

OMG! My first experience with Chinese food post op will likely be my last. I had RNY so Im not sure if it makes a difference but I was throwing up for 3 hours after 2 bites of food! All I had was 1 piece of beef and 1 green bean! Good luck.

Id love to know what others recommend too.

I would think some of the meat or seafood dishes without thick sweet sauce would be fine. The beef from Beef and Broccoli (if you've previously had beef), or any of those mixed veggies with nut/seafood dishes are light on the sauce. Just focus on protein and stay away from the rice, noodles, etc.

Even almost 3yrs post RNY I rarely eat Chinese food. I think it's the high fat content and it makes me nauseated.
I wouls suggest steamed meat and veggies. Avoid fried or battered food and watch the sauces as they have hidden fat and sugar.
I know with a VSG you can tolersate sugars but they are still calories.
Enjoy your dinner and let us know how it goes.
Continued success

I am only a year out, but I cannot eat chinese food at all. I hope you have more luck than I have.

I went for Chinese food last evening at a local restaurant.  I stuck with meat and veggies.  Went down fine, no issues.

Good luck in your adventure!

we have a new restaurant in my town and I am dying to try it but to be honest I am afraid. most foods irritate me now and I have to lay down after I eat. I would love some beef and brocolli and would kill for Sesame chicken but know that it would be torture.

Custom order exactly what you think is best for you to eat.  Tell them you have food intolerances and you need no sugar added and very low fat.  You could ask them to recommend a dish that falls into this category.
