I'm on day 6 of opti today.  It's not nearly as bad as most protien shakes I've tried so take comfort in knowing that!    I could never stomach a full protien shake but that was when I didn't HAVE to...
I did buy some Torani SF syrups for my opti and love them!  Got them at buycoffeecanada.com and got a great deal and LOVE them!  You can also use crystal light packs, SF extracts to flavour the opti.  Of course post op you have more options because you can actually have food if it's all blended up.
Good Luck!  You won't be long now!

I flavoured one vanilla optifast a day with a half serving of crytal ligh****er flavouring and made one chocolate flavoured optifast a day.  It was bearable. used tons of ice in a blender with super cold water.

I haven't tasted a ready made shake that Iiked yet.  I make (and made) all my own smoothies.  I use a GNC protein powder called Promasil soft serve vanilla.  The good thing about GNC is if you don't like the product you can take it back.  If you want a recipe I wll be happy to provide.  Do you have a decent blender?

1/2 cup 0% plain greek youghurt, 1/2 cup unsweetened plain soy milk, 1/2 cup berries or 1/2 banana (early days post op use non seed berries like blueberries), 1 scoop Promasil Vanilla Soft Serve protein powder.  If you like cold stuff add a few ce cubes, blend and enjoy!

U R most welcome!  Good luck on your journey!

dna had posted a really tasty pumpkin smoothie recipe, if you use the search button near the top right had of your screen it might bring her post up and give you some experience using it, its a neat tool for finding information on previous posts!

I'm one of the odd ones that liked optifast by itself (at least the chocolate one - I thought it tasted like chocolate milk mmmm....). Anyways, the suggestions of sugar free syrups from davinci or torani are a good one for optifast, as well as the suggestion of crystal light.

For the protein powder, I don't use ready made shakes but make my own every morning with my blender, either chocolate and vanilla protein powder and then my fixings. I found bariatric foodie's website (her butterfinger shake is a staple favourite of mine, although I call it peanut butter m&m shake because I've never tried a butterfinger and that's what it tastes like to me. I also recommend the swirly cone shake and sugar cookie shake) and eggface's website (I like the PB&J shake) are great starting places. Once I tried a few, I started experimenting myself, trying to recreate some of my favourite tasting things from pre-op as a WLS-friendly protein shake (somethings actually translate pretty well into a shake, but mind you, I'm going on a taste memory that's a year and a half old so I don't honestly know how close it is, but works for me...).

All this said, the better tasting the protein powder is prior to adding all the good stuff, the better the end product so make sure your try other brands of powders as well. My favourite is Nectar by Syntrax, and you can order sample packs off their website to try them out.

Hope these ideas help!

I haven't tried Optifast yet, still at the very very early stages...just had my referal sent in a month ago...but, I do use protein shakes for breakfast...

One of my favorite add-ins is a tsp or two of pureed pumpkin and a sprinkle of cinnamon.  I usually open a can of pure pumpkin (not the pumpkin pie filling) and freeze them in ice cube trays...then just pop one out, throw it into my vanilla shake along with an ice cube or two,  top of with a generous sprinkle of cinnamon and blend.

I also like to add "fruit crumble" spices to a vanilla shake  (cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice, ginger)...

Hope this helps!

ooooo that sounds good...so just the spices huh? I didn't think of that...and the fact that the protein shake was just cold...not freezing cold, and I was at work so I just thought what the hell I'll try it like this........YUCK! So, I figured that I would start investigating how to enjoy these shakes before I actually HAVE to drink them lol

Thanks so much
