Orientation today! I can't remember the last time I've been this excited/ nervous
Very much looking forward to my orientation session today in Kingston. while I won't be following the same path as most due to not being covered by OHIP the military still wants the regional assessment centres option on what surgery to have so i'm going to make the most of my info session today and hopefully get my lingering questions answered and get the ball rolling a little faster uphill!
Thanks again to the community here, without your knowledge and more importantly your help i wouldn't have had the courage to proceed.
Morning all,
orientation session went well, honestly there wasn't anything new I learned that i hadn't already known from my own research but it was nice to meet the Centre staff and get there feel of the pro's and cons of the surgery. My wife tagged along as my support and it was nice to see she now has a better understanding of the process post Op. She was surprised what I had been telling her for months was word for word what they presented.
I was surprised to see my sessions class reaction to some of the upcoming restrions, seemed alot of people were not as well versed on what to expect, people were genuinely shocked with the notion of being 6 months smoke free or no booze,
As i suspected they were towing the company line and pushing RNY and only RNY info wise. they did mention VSG once but zero talk on DS. They spend a fair amount of time on LapBand though.
Expected wait time from orientation to surgery is 4-6 months and they offer us the chance to pick between Humber river or Ottawa civic, no mention of St Joe's in Ham for those like myself looking for DS or VSG.
All in all I think it was a positive experience, the staff seem amazing and genuinely interested in our progress post op and they seem to cover all the bases.
Next stop Nurse prac appointment!
