Postural Tachycardia Syndrome
Yesterday while in ER, doc made me do a blood pressure test.. taking my blood pressure while laying down, then have me stand up, wait 3 minutes and take it again whie standing.... it showed that my heart rate went up after standing, significantly.
I thought this may be just a fluke but **** woke up today feel great, drank 45grams of protein thus far so 487 ml and 591 ml in water so far, my goal is to get another 591 mls of water into me by tonight and ultimate goal would be to add another 300mls.. so basically about 1.5-2 L of fluid in a day..which is what is recommended..
well.. after watching a movie on the couch, I slow got up ( incision still pulls) and did 16 laps around my small appartment, which would have taken me 15+ minutes a few days ago but only took me 10 today... was slightly dizzy/disoriented while walking but kept my wits about me and continued, however after 10 minutes I came and sat back down.... I am still feeling a little dizzy/disoriented and my head feels heavy.. WTH... what is going on with me?!
I used to be able to work out, go to crossfit and manage intensive workouts without feeling this way, but standing up and walking 10 minutes... wow... I guess I may have this syndrome... I am so discouraged...
i am still happy I had the surgery.. just wish the barrage of crap that has happened since would chill the EFF out.. I see Dr. Yelle on Thursday but man... does this mean I should cool it with the walking until then and try and figure things out with him ?
I will continue to push fluids

Ok... So...
Laying to sitting... WAIT before standing...
Sitting to standing... SLOWLY getting up and make sure you are steady before you start walking...
Walking... It is great that you can do it faster but... SLOW DOWN for now please. It is not a step backward to slow it down. It is important to take it slow and have a way to be safe with this.
*hugs*

definitely focus on the water/fluids and getting that in, you don't want dehydration on top of anything else. Maybe slow down on the walking a bit, 15 to 30 mins a day is fine and you don't have to walk it all at once, you can do 10 minute walks or even multiple 5 minute walks. Remember you're consuming very few calories and have been through major surgery. Keep paying attention to your body as you have been but also give yourself a break and get lots of rest.
Best wishes to you and keep us posted :)
What is happening to you is actually kind of normal in the WLS world. I've heard numerous people talking about experiencing what you describe at various points along in the process. It happened to me for a very long time before I got a diagnosis of orthostatic hypotension or postural hypotension. It will get better.

I have to say something what is it with people coming home from surgery and thinking they can do what they did prior to surgery. Did your doctor not give you a booklet to tell you what to do after surgery.
You just had MAJOR surgery not even one week ago you can not do an intensive workout one week post op. This is a major operation your organs have been rerouted and are healing. Your outside is okay but inside there is healing and some adjustments going on.
You may or may not have this syndrome but with pain and exercise your heart rate does go up and without food and fluids we will get dizzy. The 16 laps around the apartment at one time may be too much for your body right now slow it down and give yourself and body a break.
The main thing right now is fluids, protein and some light walking not doing a marathon.
I hope you feel better soon.

I feel a little offended that you think I am not following what was asked of me by my center...
I have been reading the booklet like its the bible and doing everything I was instructed to do.. 16 laps in my very small appartment took me only 10 minutes... I only do this a few times a day...
I don't think that harshness was necessary was it?
I KNOW I had major surgery, I KNOW to focus on fluids, but it is also good to walk to help promote healing and movement of things.. jeezz.. back down would ya?

I think it's a bit of a stretch to be offended.
Was it not you who just had 2L of water pumped in via IV in the emerg? I can tell you right now that if you were doing "everything" you were supposed to you wouldn't be dehydrated and that IS the bottom line of your problem. It doesn't take rocket science to figure it out and THAT IS IN the "bible and That? would indicate you weren't following "the booklet like it's a bible"
And as I recall, 16 laps a "few times a day" isn't in the book. Slowly building up to walking is
So read it again and get over it being "percieved" as harsh.
