Confused on eating post surgery?!

Hello All,
OK so this board has totally confused me on eating post surgery. I know from family who had RNY and my own classes at TWH...that after surgery for 2 weeks your on liquid, then 2 weeks puree, 2 weeks soft and then to normal foods....
I see people posting on here about trying solid foods and foods that according to plan they should not have (even my sis in law eat was eating sweet potato fries etc..)
Is the plan only a guideline? and if you can stomach food then go ahead and eat?
I was under assumption that we needed to follow the plan exactly to get our stomach prepared and maximize weight loss?
I only ask this because im confused on this matter...thanks all.
Just because you can, doesn't mean you should. I went with the plan that my medical team provided with me because I was so nervous about messing something up. I found that for the first little while anyway, that food held absolutely no interest for me and I only ate it because I considered it a medicine to help me get better (you need the protein to heal).
The first two weeks of liquid and then puree were the most challenging. I didn't want to eat and then my options were very limited as my clinic said to only introduce one new food item a day in case something didn't agree with you, as you could then isolate the problem food. As hard as it was, I stuck with that although it made food choice very uninteresting initially. Having a can of cream of chicken soup last three days of meals doesn't exactly make one particularly hungry... I found that having someone remind me to eat and/or having someone else prepare it, or in the case of purees, pureeing it a head of eating times helped immensely.
Best of luck!
Edited to add: The further out you are, the more you can experiment. I've had sweet potato fries for example, but they were homemade ones that I prepared in the oven, so in reality, it was just a baked sweet potato in a different shape...

Thanks guys that's what I thought....I plan on following plan to the tee...I got this size by cheating and not eating right....its just sometimes I read people on here post surgery and on another forum on different site and people trying foods a lot sooner.
Thanks for the input and re-assurance
I have followed my clinics book to a T. Even while in opti i never once cheated and did everything thats was asked of and then some..
So in regards to the pickle.. I called my clinic last friday and spoke to dietician who said that I could move out of the pureed stage and slowly integrate new foods and chew well... So basically yea.. Follow what your center reccomends and i agree with the post that says to try and stay away from foods that would cause cravings.. However being only two and a half weeks.. I have to say the urge to eat is not there... And yes eating eggs and soup gets old but you just stick it out until the book says or you speak to someone who has the professional opinions...
Just rember tho... Everyone has a different recovery rate..

Thanks Chenelle!
That's great info....Im glad your able to attempt to eat....a pickle I don't think is so bad, as u can mast it up..but some people not necessarily on here are attempting FOOD FOOD!!!
An I was like WTF? I hear eggs are ok in stage 2 post op I think?(kinda where you are now I guess)
I agree with everyones rate of recovery being different. Congrats on your journey and good to hear the urge to eat is not there....Are you having trouble remembering to eat?
Thanks!
I find keeping on a routine helps me remember to eat. Try that..

I felt the same way as you did pre surgery. But honestly it is maybe a little bit too judgmental of you to have an opinion on it. For example I was on opti for three weeks then full liquids for I think I last 12 days instead of the 14 prescribed before I switched to err.. mostly stuff on the purreed diet but I never purreed things was just very careful about chewing. and Now I am on soft foods and slowly eating things. To be honest I have eaten a couple things that are not allowed on the diet but only in social unavoidable situations and always just focusing on protein and of course only maybe 3 oz of food max since I can not eat any more than that.
At this stage the main focus is on protein and there isnt really any room for anything other than that. Just got home from my 1 month post op meeting.
