Question for vets

I have about hit my goal. Although I think I will probably change it to a lower weight.

My question is on birthdays and such do you have a sliver of cake or do you commit to stay on your food regiment. Since this is for life do you beat yourself up over slight slips knowing tomorrow is back on the wagon.

I would really like to hear from vets how you handle celebrations

I'm not in any position to be giving advice on this one...but just wanted to say Congrats on reaching your goal!  It must feel great.  When is your birthday, Pat?

I ended up having a small piece. I can see how it would be so easy once you have that first bite to keep going. I think for me it would be better to not have anything

Congratulations Pat on reaching your goal.  You may not have to worry about adjusting your goal weight downwards, when I reached my goal weight of 150 I started what I thought was maintenance but I just kept right on losing.  I am now able to maintain my weight within a 3-5 lb range between 133 - 138.  I weigh myself everyday and adjust either my calories or exercise as required to maintain in this range.

Now to answer your question, I will have either a taste of my husband dessert on occasion if it looks really good or have a very small sliver of my own.  I try to plan these "treats" into my meal plan whenever I know in advance.  I don't beat myself up over indulging but I do make darn sure that the treats are not an everyday occurrence and don't let my weight get outside my range, even when I was on vacation at an all inclusive.  I still made sure that I located a scale and was able to step on the scales for a reality check.

Maintaining is a whole new ball game and you just have to find the right mix for you. I'm just over the two year mark and I'm currently able to maintain without too much trouble, but as I said I'm very diligent keeping my weight in check. The whole idea of malabsorption ending and weight regain scares the begeezus out of me.

Keep me posted on your continued success.  Muriel

Your approach appears realistic. I sometimes feel that when I am so strick around sweets that later I want to binge. Fortunately for me I have nothing in the house but crackers and can do limited damage

May I also congratulate you on reaching your goal weight.

As for those special occasions, I think that we will live a life of moderation in order to maintain what we have attained. On that same token, a life without cake etc EVER is unrealistic.

I was a 'dumper' both for fat and sugar and still get a pounding feeling in my chest when I eat simple carbs or things with added sugar. I also get nauseated with high fat foods.

I would still love to eat all those sugary things but know I will feel like crap if I do. When I am at someone's house or at a work celebration, I have taken a very small slice of what ever is being served and pick at the cake (not the icing... )  for a few minutes and then toss it away quietly.

My family don't serve cake on my BD out of respect but make a no added sugar trifle or something similar.

Congrats on having such a nice family. I unfortunately do not dump from sweeets. I do feel sick from high fat so stay away.
