Just curious to see if it is a go, if so, how would you go about getting on it?  isn't it OHIP covered?  any update/info is greatly appreciated.

I know of two people who have already started the program, just in the past couple weeks. You do pay for your OPTI it is not covered by Ohip. Other than that I guess calling the Guelph Clinic is best advice.

I was referred to the Hamilton Bariatric Clinic in error (should have been the registry).

Anyway, they do the 12 week optifast program there,  and they told me its $80 week.

They also said that Guelph has indeed started its program and I had also met someone that was scheduled to start in Guelph.

Good Luck

That's what it is- non surgical approach.  I have spoken with some people that have done it...have lost weight and then put it

back on.  I dont think its for me.

Congrats on your RNY.  That is what I am holding out for also.

Happy Recovery!!

This program makes no sense to me. I can't imagine it will have any long-term success. You can't stay on opt forever and it's not really doing anything to address the underlying weight issues. I can only imagine a quick regain after stopping. Not to mention will people actually stick with the diet for 12 weeks! I'm on day 4 and its taking all the willpower I have not to snap up one of kid's chicken nuggets!! Just my 2 cents!!

I did the program here in Ottawa and at that time, it was a 26 week program. We went once a week and had sessions regarding emotional issues, nututrional information and excersise. They weigh you weekly, take your blood pressure and measure your waist.

You had a choice of doing OptiFast for 6 or 12 weeks and then you transitioned back to food over 6 weeks.

I did lose a total of 47 lbs, but have gained it back over the past 3 years. I know some who lost a lot more than I did, and gained back almost right away.

This program has just started. First 12 weeks you are on strictly optifast which costs $100 per week. There is also some blood work required that isnt covered by OHIP, cost around $80. Also you must attend 26 weekly meetings on nutrition, exercise, behaviour modification and healthy eating. After the 12 weeks they counsel you on your diet and help you make the changes you need to be successful.
