Quick question, with the lay-offs in Ottawa hosp Should I move my file to Tor?
Morning all, as those going thru Kingston might know were "told" we have the choice between surgery in Ottawa of Humber river in TO? Wondering with the recent layoffs in Ottawa should I ask to move my file to TO? Seeing as myself and my family are posted to CFB Borden(Barrie area) in June/July I was leaning towards asking for TOR anyways.

Humber river is a lot quicker for getting you into surgery once they have your file--they have more surgeons at their site compared to Ottawa---if I were you I'd ask to switch BUT it depends on how long Ottawa has had your file for, you might be close to getting called from Ottawa ---decisions,decisions
I too chose HRRH. I live in Belleville and am going through Kingston. My file is being signed off on tomorrow and sent. Just to give you an idea of time line, I was told to expect a call in the next 2-3 weeks and will meet likely with the surgeon in March and have surgery in April. Again that is just guessing but I think the staff know the time line pretty well. Ottawa has a little bit longer wait. But you do what rights for you. Good luck with your choice.

Generally Toronto is much quicker than Ottawa and if you are going to be transferred to Borden, why not Toronto.
Good lord I don't know what would posses you to come to Ottawa when our waitlists for surgery are almost 18 months long for the RNY and TO has a 5 month wait - not to mention that Ottawa won't even talk to you about your other options. You have fought too hard up to now to make that mistake.
I tried to have my file moved to Toronto but there was no discussion to be had. I went for my orientation on July10 - didn't tell them I had the DS just to see how long it would take before they called for the 1st appointment and I have yet to hear a single peep out of them. Don't worry I am not actually going to take up a valuable appointment time - I just want to see how long it takes before I hear from them and I want to have the satisfaction of telling them that - yes I did in fact choose the surgery I felt was best for me from a menu...
I know you are coming through the military route but I doubt this will make any difference to the front line staff who book the appointments here.
