Ultrasound, Done! A question though...
Hello Everyone!
I just had a quick question, I have to say I have been to my doctors for awhile before starting this journey and now I am finding myself going every other week, to something which is awesome and great because I am learning new things...But I do have a question...
When getting an ultrasound, or ECG, or gastroscopy( I was asleep during mine). Is there a reason the people performing the procedures cannot tell us what they fine. When I asked the nice lady who did my ultrasound "So everything normal in there" all she said was "I only take the pictures, your doctor will talk to you about the results..." Which kind of drives me nuts. Has this always been this way? or was there a new law or something put in place?

The technicians cannot, by Ontario law, disclose your results to you.
I lucked out in October when I had my angiogram -- the cardiologist who ordered the test, performed the test, and he called out to me from his viewing area "Everything's fine, Marilyn, no blockages, you are cleared to go."
I understand your frustration ...

Its supposed to be the doc in charge of reading/interpreting the test results, though I had an ultrasound tech who didn't mind sharing. It is standard procedure though to not share, as in many cases they are trained to do the test, not necessarily interpret the results. They would also not desire the possible liability of being wrong (docs carry insurance for such errors).
Hi, I'm new here but I do know that it is appropriate only for your doctor to explain your results. It has always been that way, but in saying that I know on occasion some technicians have probably told people what they have seen. Just from what I have heard over the years.

Thanks,
Good to know, as I have said I have never gone to any of these before so I am first timer for all of the test being done, except for the blood. Thank you! :)
