Hormones

Good morning All! I have a question I have been meaning to ask the Dr but keep forgetting. Do your hormones change after surgery? For instance, although my periods only last 5 days, 3 of those days are very heavy. Will that change? Also, I have facial hair. The Dr tested me several years ago for testosterone and I registered "high". Can that change? It's not like a beard or anything. Just enough to be noticeable if I don't keep up with tweezing.
Thanks for any and all information! Have a great day!

Hey Shellybelly!! (just looking at your tag line there...I enjoy being Kellybelly, and get Kellynobelly now LOL).

My periods changed to lighter....for a year. I thought surgery was a miracle and changed it for me, but then it came back to it's old wicked self. Not sure if my fibroid just behaved for that period (I didn't have any ultrasounds during that time), but now I have more than before surgery and it's wrecking my iron.

This is me though....and everyone is different. I don't have any experience with testosterone, so hopefully someone else can help you there.!

Surgery March 23/2011. Completed three full marathons and two half marathons, two half Ironman distances. Completed my first Full Ironman distance (4 km swim, 180 km bike, 42.2 km (full marathon) run) in Muskoka August 30/2015. Next Ironman Lake Placid July 23/2017!

I don't have issues with periods...menopause...but my doctor tells me that fat cells store estrogen.  You lose the fat, you reduce your estrogen.  She thinks my super easy, symptom free menopause may have been in part due to my weight.   There you have it...the one and only good thing about being fat!!!

I am sure everyone has different experiences, but here is mine. For me it unfortunately got worse instead of better. I was a once every two or three month kinda gal before surgery and they were pretty awful. I managed through as I knew I would have a break for a couple months at a time. Post op it changed to 28 days like clockwork and got worse as far as pain and heaviness each month. Low iron and then losing anything I did have every four weeks was making me feel even worse. I ended up getting an endrometiral ablasion (sp?) done as I am done having children and it has been the amazing. I feel so much better.

As for the hormones, they seem to go whacky for a while post op as you lose the fat stores, but hopefully things will normalize for you. I had higher then normal testosterone levels too and they seem to be OK now.

Not much help - sorry, but a little information.

Good luck on your journey,

Kristie

It was worse for about three years and then it got perfect. I had PCOS,was high in everything, lol, testosterone and estrogen were elevated at the same time... I guess they were trying to compensate for each other... Anyway, the first two years it was a total mess, flow wise (very heavy even with IUD) and hair wise. Third year postop, the things have changed - everything is perfect. I had ma facial hair removed by laser, and by body hair just disappeared on its own. I used to have pretty furry arms and legs... they look like shaved now, can't believe the change.

BTW, PCOS is gone as well, I was tested and retested... just gone.

Nata, a very happy DSer!
