Surgery; time of day (Ottawa)?

Hello all!  Just trying to plan for childcare etc. day of surgery.  I got my call for pre-admit appointment next Wed. (my surgery is the following Friday).  Just wondered how far ahead you find out what time of day your surgery will be.  I am not diabetic (I have heard they do those cases first in the AM.  What are some of the times that you have all had to be there?

Hi, you most likely won't know the time untill the day before your surgery, when the have the or schedule set.

So I went to pre-admitting on the 21st and was told that I will get a call the day before by 1:00 pm.....makes it hard to plan life!

When they gave me my surgery date, they also gave me the time. That was Dr. Huynh at HRRH.

During PATTS you will be informed where to call the afternoon of the day before surgery.   My surgery was on a Monday, so I called the Friday afternoon.  My surgery was scheduled for 8 a.m. so I had to be at the Surgical Day Unit at 6:15 a.m.

Yup, what she said, I called the day before surgery I called the number they gave me during patts at 130 and they give you your time. From what I was told (I was a 615 surgery) allergies go first, or maybe that's just a latex allergy. At least that's what they told me . My surgery was also fast, started at 830 and was done before 10 because that's when my family got the call I was in recovery.

Ottawa times are 8/11/3 or that's what they aim for... They want you at the hospital a few hours before and the afternoon one... They want you there by noon I think... You won't find out the time till the day before.
I am not diabetic but I was the first of the day... Possibly because of my latex allergy? I was glad though because an emergency came in after me and the other surgeries were postponed, my roommate didn't make it into our room till 1am... She was booked for afternoon but didn't have surgery till the evening... She was just glad to have it and not be bumped completely.
Good luck to you, I would plan for child are for the whole day so as to not stress about it all... If you have 8am surgery you have to be at the hospital for 6am.
I live out of Ottawa, about an hour... We didn't stay in Ottawa the night before, but would have if they were calling for bad weather. We did when joey had his last year. The travel lodge has a hospital rate...ask for it if you need to stay in town.

They called me at 1pm the day before. I was scheduled for 3:15 and had to be at the hospital by 11am. I was in recovery by 6. I was diabetic, so the early morning is a tale.

Plan to be a wreck most of the day, have your children cared for starting early, you will be a bundle of nerves! Oh, and I had my last optifast at 8pm the night before and only water until 9am...nothing after that!
