Hello Everyone!

I just had a quick question, Does anyone know if they will not do the surgery if you have recently gotten a tattoo?

I dont see any reason they wouldnt, unless the tattoo gets infected. But you will be just fine dont worry.

Someone else had posted about this a year ago.  A response at the time was that everyone was admiring their tattoo in the OR pre-surgery.

I imagine that unless the tattoo is in an area where they need to slice you open, it should not be a problem.

Pre op here but I was sure I read I think in Monica's post that you are not suppose to get one close to surgery date. Try the search feature or find one of her posts and read lback I hope it was her but not really sure

 Respectfully Jane

Hmm, if all goes well...I am hoping to have my surgery in August, which will be 5 months of having the tattoo.

In 5 mths anything that medically went wrong with the tattoo will show up. I am having open surgery in a week and a half for something else and I will have an open cut that was infected a few weeks ago on my shin. It will still be open and bandaged in the or. They are not concerned about it.

Five months should be plenty of time for a tattoo to heal. My only concern with getting a tattoo pre-op is that its essentially a wound that needs to heal at the same time you're healing from surgery, so getting it very close to surgery is probably not the best bet (but I'm thinking a week before surgery timeline here). Five months is lots of time, I wouldn't sweat it.
