I swear by Precision Extreme Isolate 97 from Popeye's. It is 97% pure, so it does not have an after taste like the cheaper powders do. It comes either unflavored or in vanilla. I buy the unflavored because it comes in a 2.27kg bucket and lasts forever. That way I can just use it for everything and when I want a vanilla flavor, I add vanilla extract to whatever I'm preparing.

ISO Burst Whey from GNC, it dissolves easily and completely in hot liquids/cereals, has no taste. All protein powders do change the consistency of foods, it has a thickening effect and somewhat granular feel to the food that is what it is. The longer you leave it the more congealed the food will get imo.
