Hi all-I have surgery on Tuesday and am almost finished 3 weeks of Opti. I have always suffered from bad headaches and migraines ever since I was a little girl. The only thing that has worked for me in 2 extra strength Liqui-Gel Advil for migraines. I have had a TERRIBLE headache the last day or so but Tylenol isn't working. What does everone take after RNY for killer headaches when you can't take NSAIDS?

Thanks,
Gina

Ask your doctor if Tramacet would work for your headache. I've used this for pain post op.

It sounds weird, but I've actually taken gravol in combo with extra strength tylenol for really bad headaches post RNY, I also tend to turn to sinus medication to treat them, just have to make sure that they're not Ibuprophen based. I also think that I've seen a tylenol migraine formula, but could be wrong.

I was like you and only Advil seemed to help but we don't have much choice...

While on Opti I stopped drinking caffeine since I knew it would cause me headaches and I wanted to deal with the caffeine withdrawal while i was still able to take Advil.

Since surgery I have only used Tylenol Extra strength (500mg) and it seems to do the trick... I actually haven't had any headaches since surgery.

What about a diet coke ?  The caffeine sometimes will jolt me out of a bad headache string.  AND right now while on Opti it's allowed !!

After, sometimes a Tylenol Menstrual will work if my headache is muscle related.

Alternating hot and cold shower ?   Ice pack ?  Biofreeze (an excellent muscle thingy that always helps me, I buy it at the Chiropractors office)

I know you have probably tried most of these :(  I hope you get rid of it soon (do you think it's weather related probly )

I too have migraines and Advil was my only friend, I have Imetrix, prescribed, but some times it doesnt help. An ice pack really helps and the ultra strength Tylenol, what about Excedrin? Its not an nsaid.

Some Excedrin formulas have aspirin in them so you'd have to avoid those ones.

I was told by a friend. To take a sinus med when I have a headache. I thought she was nuts. However bring in your position of advil working best for headaches. I did try a tylonal sinus and it infact does help.
However being a migraine sufferer for many years i find since surg headaches are not so common anymore.
