baby food
I bought a boatload of baby food before surgery. It's just nasty. Much nicer to eat purreed real food than bbyfood!!

For veggies, I cooked a head of cauliflower, some squash and some carrots. I mashed them up and portioned them out into containers. I would eat my protein and have some veggies with it. You can also freeze the portions in ice cube trays and then store the mashed veggie cubes in ziploc bags.
Good luck in your decisions.

FANTASTIC IDEA! I guess you can do that with whatever you puree - veggies, meat, etc.? I just like the simplicity of it. And the ice cube sizing it probably close to how much we should be eating anyway, right? Baby food jars still seem a wee bit on the big size....
As well, so true about SALT, PRESERVS, etc. in canned goods. So much better to do it yourself.
Hi, I was thinking about trying some baby food also when I arrive to the pureed stage this weekend. I also think it should be good for a bit of time as you slowly work toward our foods also. Be interesting to hear what the Nut says about it.

Well, for anyone interested, the nutritionist said it's ok to eat baby foods once in awhile while you're on puréed, but to eat nothing but baby food isn't great because of the sugar and sodium, as well as the lack of protein. She said it's actually cheaper to just buy your own fresh veg and make purées out of it. She also said making a big batch of chilli and freezing it in to individual servings works well for getting your protein - you just defrost your servings as you need them. She said most people find the taste of baby food to be horrible, so buy a jar while you're at the puréed stage and try it, and make your decision from there. It sounds like they would rather you stay away from anything too complicated, and even the one ingredient jars of baby food still have stuff in them to keep them shelf stable.
So there we go, a bit of baby food is ok, only baby food is not ok :)
