PATTS + a cold?

I have my PATTS appointment on Thursday morning and last night the beginnings of a cold came on. Today I am miserable. The likelihood that I will be cold-free by Thursday is slim since in the past it usually takes me at least a week to get rid of the worst symptoms and two weeks to get rid of the chest congestion. Has anyone gone to their appointment sick? Does it mean delaying surgery? I am drinking water like crazy and going out to get some Buckley's this morning but I get this chest congestion/sinus infection every spring and fall so I know it won't go away quietly or quickly. Really hope it doesn't mean a delay in surgery :(

I have heard of alot of people with colds during PATTS or even surgery.  They say as long as there is no fever then surgery will still go on :) Good luck and hope this cold goes away soon :)

I had mine also and I had a sinus and chest cold. I barely passed my lung reading but told them I had a cold. She told me that as long as I am not sick by the time of my surgery, it will be fine. But if I have symptoms to call the doctor and they would prob reschedule. Being on OPTI, must compromise our immune systems or something because I too am dizzy.....Went in a hot tub on the weekend after day 5 of Opti and almost passed out after. felt sick. felt like throwing up. I just laid down and relaxed, had some cold water and took deep breaths. I think you and I have our surgeries on the same day at TWH . Oct 15. I caught a sinus/chest cold on day 4 of Opti. I medicated myself bigtime and its better today.

Oh yeah, hot tubs + low calorie diet = trouble!! Best to stay out of hot tubs, saunas, all that kind of stuff until you are back on regular foods. Some people can tolerate it but it really can make you sick, as you experienced!

I'm hoping with a lot of Buckley's and Cepacol I can kick this thing. It's only in my chest, no sinus congestion so fingers crossed that means it will pass a little faster. I know my lungs are pretty rattly right now but hopefully by Thursday they will sound better so I pass the lung inspection! My surgery is Oct 18th so we're not quite twins, but close! Hope you feel better soon!

I was the same, had a cold when I went in. Was sneezing and congested. Not good. The anesthesiologist just said I still had time and as long as I didn't get a fever or mess I'd be fine. He checked my lungs and they were clear. I was still a bit stuffy the day of surgery and it was good.

Glad to hear you were mostly well by the time surgery came and they didn't have to delay it. My chest is rattling pretty good now but I'm hoping that by Thursday it's clearer - I have a history of bronchitis and asthma attacks that are triggered by chest congestion so as long as I can keep that stuff at bay I should be ok. No fever yet so that's good!
