Jumping on the no sleep bandwagon.

I've seen a few posts and threads recently about those of you who can't sleep. I am 13 days post op and my sleep has been progressively getting worse. I have trouble falling and staying asleep and can't seem to nap during the day. I was thinking of getting some melatonin (although it never worked for me pre-op) or something like Unisom but I'm afraid of ending up becoming dependant on them to sleep, even though I know they're not supposed to be habit-forming. Has anyone had any experience with sleep aids post-op? Boy do I miss that Percocet-induced sleep from my first week home!

I would just give it some time....your body is trying to do a lot of things at once....like heal...and get over the drugs in your system....( including those that knock you out)

My sleep issues are mainly work related...

Hope this improves for you soon

Thanks :) Not sleeping is so frustrating but it's not like I have to go to work so I shouldn't get too stressed about it yet I guess!

Hopefully your work related stuff clears up soon so you can sleep!

Agreeing with Birdie, give it time.  Pretty much anything that puts you to sleep will become habit forming, and while technically not addictive it can easily become habit forming.  The other thing is once your system becomes used to getting help, it easily expects it and will NOT let you fall asleep without the help.

I have had sleep issues for a very long time.  I need 50mg of benedryl to fall asleep, which is kind of OK as I also have a chronic sinus problem that is helped greatly by that drug and is "better" than the long lasting non drowsy drugs, at least for me.

Good luck!  Maybe count zombies?  kiss

Yeah, that's what I figured with the habit forming stuff. Better to let it work itself out I guess, and just put up with it. Not what I want to hear but probably good advice ;) I scare easily so no counting zombies for me - my imagination would just run away with me and then I'd be up even longer :p

Oh I envy you!! Maybe I'll try some Sleepy Time, that's a good idea. I am so tired but my body just will not sleep, not even a cat nap today! Hopefully we both start sleeping better soon - I think we are sort of close in surgery dates so it must have something to do with healing and the extra energy from ketosis or something!
