Home and recovering

Hi there.  Just a quick update on my surgery.  First off, the surgery was a success.  - this I am able to type this message.  Lol. I lived so that is a success in my books any day. Surgery almost didn't happen as the anaesthetist didn't like my heart arrhythmia that morning.  Finally the surgeon, heart specialist and anaesthetist had a confab and landed on the decision that this emergence surgery had to go forward or risk other serious complications.  The surgeon won finally as he felt we had to address these other issues sons could recover and then focus on the heart issues.

With lots of warnings on the risk to me, the anaesthetist finally gave green light to proceed. Believe me they had every medical precaution ready in the event things didn't go well.    I was even out in ICU step down unit afterwards so I had constant heart monitoring.

Surgery was 2 hours.  They did find and repair my internal hernia. They fixed my umbilical hernia and after doing the scope they did find an ulcer so now on meds for that.   Apparently I was under way longer than they thought as my umbilical hernia took almost 1.5 hours to repair.  It was huge and the mesh from a previous attempt to repair 20 years ago was all tangled up.  This didn't make the anaesthetist too happy. My pulse rate dropped to 38 and my blood pressure was off the scales low.

Although my surgeon had released me first thing yesterday before he went into surgeon , the hospital dr kept me in all day for additional monitoring and so she could speak to the heart specialist to give him an update before I went home.

Once again the Guelph Hospital was wonderful.   Was well looked after and can't say enough about their care and services.   I am home - complete with pillow over belly for moving around - and with lots of pain drugs.  Lol.

Let the healing begin!
