Weight gain and post-op class
I am with the Guelph clinic and would like to hear comments if somebody gained some weight waiting for post-op class… If I gained 10-12lbs should I be worried that they will send me back and I would have to wait 3 more months for the appointments? Or can you tell them that you would like to reschedule for the next month’s class and quickly lose those pound as soon as possible?
Thanks everyone.

I was told from Audrey that they frown upon weight gain of any kind. I was up 2 lbs at one of my appts and she said if i go up anymore the surgeon may make me wait until i showed that I could lose the weight.
Now, that may have just been a scare tactic but I dont know.
That happened to me too, I was up 4 lbs and they told me the same thing, plus she asked me if I really want the surgery or not. But, for the next appointment I was down and she was really happy that I lost those 4 lbs in one month. They want to see that you are actually changing your bad ways...which only make sense.
Thanks for your comment.
I am through Guelph and I made sure that I lost weight each time I went to the clinic. I was so afraid that I would gain and get into trouble with them. I started our weighing 286 and I weigh 250 now. My surgery is Dec. 12 with Dr. Reed. I have heard from others that they will not fuss too much if your 5 pound up especially in women who go up in weight with pms but if Audrey showed concern over your slight weight gain I would wait for the next class so you have time to get your excess weight off. You don't want them to have you going back to the s.w. dietitian and nurse. I know they say we can maintain our weight that we are at when we started out but for me it was easier to lose some because I know that maintaining would of been harder. I know what I'm like. Good luck you can do this.
I am with you on that, it is ironic...I have lots of health challenges plus type 2 diabetes (on insulin) and it's really hard for me to lose any weight, for the last 3 years I have been gaining 10 lbs per year. I really has to cut down on carbs in order to lose any weight, but when taking insulin you have to have carbs.
Boy does that tick me off. I have severe hormonal problems that make my body the way it is, that is the reason for the surgery. If I could control it then I would not being going through the hellish process of getting the surgery. I think saying that to people is ridiculous and unprofessional and people should complain. Maybe wait until after surgery so as not to slow down the process, but complain.

OK, rant time.
I believe that the Guelph clinic...specifically Audrey ( curious to know what her position is ) is using an abuse of power when instilling fear into people who desperately want WLS. I believe you should all together or individually file a formal complaint. This ismwrong.
If we were able to lose weight would we want life altering surgery? The committment has NOTHING to do with seeing the scale move down.
I would do some research into the government's policy and expectation based on the registry.
Kinda like telling an alcoholic to be dry before allowing him/her into detox or rehab.
I have heard it many times that they do not want to see a weight gain... maintain or a loss is what they want to see. When they called looking to book a surgeons appointment one of the first things they asked is if I had gained weight. I don't think they would have gave me the appointment if I had said yes (it was a cancelation I was filling).
