Post-Op Periods

This one is for the ladies out there:

I usually have heavy and long periods, but I'm about 3 weeks post-op and on Day 13 of what feels like a never ending, very heavy period. At first I thought it might be due to the blood thinners I was on, but now I'm not too sure.

Has anyone had the same experience post-op?

Mine went from long and heavy and completely irregular pre-op, to short and predictable post-op for a few months. Then I missed a period, now I am having a never-ending one. The nurse at TWH told me it's totally normal and has a lot to do with the estrogen that is stored in fat cells being released in to our bodies as we burn up the fat. It really screws things up hormonally. For some people it lasts awhile, for some it's just a few weeks/months. If it really gets to be too much the nurse told me to go to my doc and asked to be put on birth control to help get things back in order. It's also worth talking to your doc about testing your iron levels too, in case you need to be taking a supplement :) Hope it gets better soon!

Referral May 2013 / orientation at TWH June 27 / nurse practitioner July 3 / social worker August 19 / nutrition class August 26 / nutritionist August 30 / psychologist September 3 / meet surgeon (Dr. Penner) September 20 / PATTS October 10 / Surgery October 18 2013!

Mine were horrible post op. They were regular but HEAVY AS HECK from the first one post op to the time I had my hysterectomy in December (15 months later) and I AM SO HAPPY now that they took my uterus out! lol!

wow, with such a havoc in your system, it will be fun to time ovulation days. :)
