If mobility is an issue, have you looked up chair aerobics? Don't laugh it's a real thing! LOL I learned how to teach it in Teacher's College for days when we couldn't get the students outside for their daily physical activity. If you follow a few videos for a half hour (check youtube), it does end up to be quite a workout and you can vary the intensity with how you are feeling that day and use the chair for balance. Most of the moves involve cardio while sitting or doing short burst of walking or dancing around the chair. Perhaps this might be an activity for you to consider.

My surgeon told me that there's not really anything that will work but that they fade over time and it usually takes almost two years for a scar to diminish.

The spectrum 22 is the one that's being discontinued but I'll have a look at the other one.

Topic: RE: Spectrum Chewables
So Spectrum Chewables was the recommended daily multivitamin from Humber River Regional Hospital because it was the vitamin with the highest amount of vitamins and minerals, including one of the highest of iron. After going to Shoppers today as I was almost out, I found out that Spectrum Chewables have been discontinued! Ah! I don't particularly like the idea of having to swallow a big giant horse pill this early out, so I went to another Shoppers were they still had stock and bought enough to last eight months (I hope they would come out with a replacement by then  right?).
Anyways, just a friendly tip, if you depend on Spectrum Chewables as your vitamin of choice, you might want to stock up if you can still find it.

Thanks!

I did weigh in on a different one but I've compared these two in the past and they show the same, maybe within a tenth of a pound difference.

That's great news! And you'll probably sleep a lot better without the drains in. I had mine in for almost two weeks and they were a major pain but it was so much more comfortable with them gone. Wishing you continued success! It sounds like you are doing great so far!

Topic: RE: I think I should switch to Tuesday Morning Weigh-ins
I've been following along at home with Monday Morning weigh-ins and taking my own weight at home, although not posting. I have been stalled for about three weeks, which is frustrating because it feels like I only just got out of a stall, but I know my body likes to stall, regroup and then drop weight. This is why, when I weighed in yesterday, I wasn't surprised to find that I was still stalled and in fact had gone up 2 pounds since my lowest weigh-in. Imagine my happiness then today, when I went to the gym and decided to get on the scale after my work out and found that I had dropped 7 pounds  since yesterday! Go figure! I guess my body likes Tuesdays better!

I ordered these when you first posted this and was wondering if you received the samples yet? I haven't and feel like it's taking a long time, but if you haven't either, it's probably just one of those things, caught up with customs and that.
Thanks

Topic: RE: Isopure 0 Carb Protein Drink
I buy mine from Zellers. Just make sure that there isn't stuff floating in it (little flakes of the protein that have settled) because they need to be shaked up really well before you drink it to re-incorporate it or it's not the most pleasant texture. Zellers has sugar free fruit punch and sugar free grape.

Topic: RE: Looking for good undergarments
I get basic shapewear at walmart and places like that. From what I'm reading you want something for everyday wear that gives some support? Well, I'm not sure specifically what you're looking for but I saw these in the Mark's Work Wearhouse flyer the other day and they look okay. Also, Change always has nice items but not sure how much of it is shapewear.

Topic: RE: 22 days post op and struggling
 Hi Teasha

I'm sorry that you are having a hard time with post op, but from someone who was drinking every fifteen minutes, trying to ge****er in, and ended up back in hospital for a few more days a week after surgery because of dehydration (and I mean this in the nicest, but concerned and urgent, way).... START DRINKING SOMETHING. Figure out what works for you, crystal light, diet koolaid, luke warm water, ho****er, hot decaf tea, whatever, just get it in! I found that I loved ice chips. At home, I made up crystal light and poured that into an ice cube tray. When they were frozen, I just put them in a zip lock baggie and broke them up with a meat mallet. I knew that every ice cube in my tray held 20 mls of water, so I was able to count that to my fluid. What about skim milk? That counts as fluid and every cup contains 9 grams of protein.

Also, protein shakes tasted funky to me post surgery too. I ended up mixing the scoop of powder with water in the least amount needed (not diluted) and kind of drank it like a shot (in the little measuring cups the hospital gave me) while holding my nose so I wouldn't taste it as much. This helped to up my protein until I was getting in enough from food.

The main point though, is it will get better. Your protein will work itself up but keep aiming for that 60 to 80 and start drinking something!!!!

All the best!

Topic: RE: drains
I think generally, no drains in lap RNY. However, I went through HRRH and had drains. My doctor said that when a surgery doesn't go a hundred percent textbook, even if it went fine, that he puts drains in as a precaution. While they were uncomfortable, I felt better having them after seeing all the stuff that would have been trapped in my stomach. They came out after a week.

Topic: RE: Stalls and weight loss
I had a stall in the first two months and from what I've read, they are completely normal. I think I've finally figured out my body that I loose steadily, stall for a few weeks (but loose inches), then start loosing pretty good again. In my opinion, I think it's just my body adjusting. I find that weighing in only once a week, although incredibly challenging because especially for that first few weeks for me, to see it going down everyday was excellent motivation and kept me positive through eating liquid and pureed foods, is really helpful. Also, taking your measurements. Sometime I'll be stuck but I'll take my measurements and find that I've lost inches. Maybe if you haven't already, you could take your measurements and compare every few weeks.

Topic: RE: Able to sleep in their bed right after surgery?
 Hi Monique,

What I did to help was everytime I got up out of bed after a nap or at night, then next time I got in, I would lower the bed a bit. By the time I was discharged, I was able to sleep flat. Then when I got home, I was able to sleep in bed. I also had a really awesome nurse on the day I was supposed to be discharged, who showed me the proper way of getting out of the bed. When I knew that, I found that I wasn't getting that 'pulling' feeling when I got up and was able to support yourself. I would suggest asking a nurse to show you how to get in and out of bed properly when you are about to leave as most of our beds don't give us the luxury of pushing a button to raise us up into a sitting position!

All the best!

Topic: RE: Can someone explain to me canned fruit?
I can tell you what I buy because I find that some fruits I like better fresh. I bought the Dole Mandarin oranges in water. These are not canned but come in little plastic containers (four in a package) and the packaging looks just like the regular fruit juice ones but there is a small like wave type design on it that says packed in water. The second I bought was Del Monte Pears. You can't get diced pears so I ended up buying pear halves. Again, the can looks the same except for the little wave that says packed in water. I would recommend draining off the excess water before eating it. I found that if I let them drain and sit for a bit for the rest of the water to drip away they had a stronger fruit taste than if they still had some water droplets on it.

Hope that helps!
