You could always make your own BBQ sauce with low sugar ketchup. I like Cola BBQ sauce (I make it with diet caffiene free pepsi). So only a little bit of sugar from the ketchup and a whole bunch of spices and yumminess.

I asked about the caffeine in Crystal Light (specifically in the iced tea kinds) and the dietian I asked at Humber River said it wasn't enough to be concerned about.

Thanks for the advice everyone! I think I'm going to try the butterball ones and see if I can find individual ones to try at a butcher shop! Thanks again!

Oh! That's unfortunate you wasted so much money. That's exactly what I'm trying to avoid. Maybe I'll ask at the next support group meeting if anyone eats turkey pepperettes and wouldn't mind bringing one for me to try. Thanks!

That's what I've been trying to do but all the grocery stores near me only sell them in bulk packages. Their deli counters only carry individual pork pepperettes.

Topic: RE: Pepperoni?
So I know that pepperoni is not the best option because it has a lot of fat but I'm apprehensive about trying turkey or chicken pepperoni. At the stores near me, I can only buy a big bag for about 8.99 with about 25 pepperettes in it. I used to love pepperettes but I would hate to buy the big bag and find out after eating only one that I don't like them and have wasted $9.

So, my questions are, do you like turkey or chicken pepperoni? What are your favourite brands? Do you know if I can buy slices (like for making pizza or the pepperoni chips)? Do you know of anywhere that sells individual pepperettes so I could buy one to try?

Thanks everyone!

 Hi Bingodiva,

I take Spectrum chewables multivitamin (Life brand)
Life brand liquid calcium citrate
D-drops (added to my calcium)
Bariatric advantage b-12 sublingual tablets (they are the best tasting ones I could find. They taste like berry. I bought them at the pharmacy at humber river regional)

Good luck with surgery!

Topic: RE: Cawfee Talk and the recipes I was talking about...
Thanks to Karen M for getting everyone out for Cawfee Talk tonight!  It was great to see everyone! To those who I was talking to about recipes and wanted to try them out, here were the ones I was mentioning.

Coffee Cake-Type Muffins

Adapted from http://pamtremble.blogspot.com/2010/09/cinnamon-crumble-coffee-cake-muffins.html

When I make it, I divide the recipe into 3, so it makes 4 muffins at a time. That way they keep in the fridge for the week and you don't waste the rest of the batch.

Here’s my adjusted version at the smaller size, but check out the original at the link above:

1/2 cup Atkins bake mix (it has 30 grams of protein per half cup)

1 scoop vanilla protein powder (the kind I have is 20 grams per scoop)

2 Tbsps of Splenda

1 Tbsp of Sugar Twin Brown Sugar

2 Tbsps of margarine ( I use the light margine from PC blue menu)

1/4 skim milk

1 tsp vanilla

1/3 tsp baking powder (I don't actually have a measure for this so I just kind of guesstimate)

1 egg

1/4 unsweetened apple sauce (next time I might try mashed banana)

Crumble topping:

2 Tbsps of margarine

2 Tbsps of whole wheat flour

1/2 scoop of vanilla protein powder

2 Tbsps of Sugar Twin Brown Sugar

1 Tsp of cinnamon

Preheat oven to 350-degrees.

Spray muffin tin with non-stick cooking spray.

Mix all cake stuff together and all crumble stuff together in separate bowls.  Fill each muffin cup with 1 heaping tablespoon of muffin batter. Give each a little sprinkle of crumble and repeat this layering two more times. With a knife, push into the muffins a couple of times to mix in the  crumble. Bake for 15 minutes. Mine often seem a little under cooked on the top but once they sit out of the oven for a minute, they firm up and are nice and golden. I made the mistake in my first batch thinking they needed longer but they ended up as tasty looking hockey pucks when they cooled.... so don't do it, they will continue to cook that last little bit while they cool. I store mine in a freezer bag for about a week.
For the incredients I use, it ends up being about 15 grams of protein per muffin.

Here is the recipe for the chocolate cake made with beans:

http://eatingwelllivingthin.wordpress.com/2009/10/16/youre-k idding/

And here is my new favourite protein drink recipe that I kind of made up with inspiration from the Bell Plantation recipe website.

Mix 2 Tbsps of PB2 with 4 Tbsps of water in your magic bullet (or whatever you’re using), then add in just a little more than 1 cup of skim milk, 1 Tbsp of sugar free chocolate pudding mix, a scoop of vanilla protein powder (the protein powder I have has 20 grams per one large scoop so I only use half a scoop), add ½ frozen banana and 2 ice cubes. Blend until smooth and enjoy! It’s like a sundae in milkshake form! Plus with my protein powder stats (10grams per half scoop) and the amount of protein in the skim milk and PB2, you get a delicious, sugar free shake with 25 grams of protein!

Topic: RE: 2 for 1 post: NSVs and a daily funny!
First NSV: I've noticed over the last few days that my one leg has been sore just under my knee. I was worried what might be causing it but when I was waiting for someone today, I realized my leg was hurting again and what caused it was I was crossing my legs. Thinking back, I've been doing that a lot lately, I guess my body just has to get used to me sitting like that now! My second NSV was that I really miss wearing my rings but I'm not going to get them resized until I reach goal because I know that it's expensive and doing that too many times can damage your rings. I tried on some of my older rings and found one that hasn't fit since grade 9 now fits perfectly! Very exciting!

Now for the funny: Check out this youtube clip if you've heard of or have been experiencing blackberry problems! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kAG39jKi0lI

Topic: RE: Puree
My favourites, although a little gross when pureeing but smell awesome so you get over it, were pureed homemade chicken stew and homemade meat sauce. For the chiken stew, I used diced up chicken breast seasoned with paprika, a can of low fat cream of mushroom, chicken broth, a carrot diced up, and an onion cut into wedges with a few spices thrown into the crock pot and let simmer on medium for like four hours until the liquid is like half and the chicken is nearly falling apart. Then I'd blend the chicken with a bit of the sauce to get things going and separately blend up the carrots with a bit of sauce, super yummy. I'd just store it in the fridge or freezer (but usually only made one breast at a time and that was enough for a few days meals so it kept okay in the fridge. When I was ready to eat, I'd measure out my portion of chicken and put a couple of tablespoons of chalet sauce from the packages you buy at the grocery store (surprisingly nothing too bad in their but salt, although that was my only real source of sodium in my meals so I figured it was okay) and microwave. Carrots, just microwave as is.

For the meatsauce, it was really basic, extra lean ground beef, fried up with nothing in the fry pan, drained really well, put in the crock pot with whole stewed tomatoes, diced green peppers and mixed of italian spices. When done, blend and measure out a portion and top with a bit of parmeasan cheese.

I found it easier to get over the thought of eating 'baby food' if it smelled like and tasted like something good that I might normally have. The good thing about these too is that when I started soft solids, these were some of the first things I tried because I knew they agreed with me.

Hope that helps, good luck!

What an awesome feeling right!?! Congrats on your NSV and I agree with what Barb said, soon you will have too many...they're addictive! I was going to ask for some for Christmas when I'm hopefully closer to goal but I couldn't wait and ended up getting pants, a hoodie and gym shorts! LOL
Enjoy your new purchases! I'm sure you look great!

Topic: RE: not a big fan of optifast.....or being sick
I'm sorry you're having such a hard time with the optifast. I was one of the odd ones who actually liked them (while the chocolate ones at least), but I hope it gets better for you. The best advice I read about Optifast was to time it out so that the hunger isn't as bad. I had a shake at 8am, 12pm, 4pm and 8pm and had my veggies (I had 1 cup of iceberg lettuce, 1/2 cup of thinly sliced cucumbers, and 1/2 cup of thinly sliced green peppers [thinly slicing them made it look like more in the bowl which helped me a lot because I felt less deprived with having a big bowl] with a bit of balsamic vinegar on top [my clinic okayed this but make sure yours does]) when my family had dinner. The second best advice was buying a shaker bottle (mine was from GNC), it has a little wire whisk in the bottom and when you shake it, it crushes any ice in the cup and mixes the powder without making it foamy like I found the blender did. Try as many different ways you can until you find a way you like. My favourite was plain chocolate with 500 mls of ice cold water and vanilla with banana extract and SF vanilla syrup and 500 mls of ice cold water and a couple of ice cubes.

I hope that helps and it gets better for you!

Wow! That's great news! Don't worry about it too much though! They are great at getting you transitioned comfortably and in the hospital everything is taken care of so you don't have to worry. A word of advice though: Bring your own pillow, some slippers and some earplugs! They will be the most important things you have in the hospital that they won't already have for you! Good luck!

Topic: RE: How far out were you?/Has anyone tried?
I've been craving popcorn recently and I've read some on the board who've had popcorn as a snack (probably those 100 cal bags but correct me if I'm wrong) and was wondering how far along you were when you tried it?

Also, corn. I've had corn a couple of times but in very small doses (meaning a couple of cups of mixed veggies - peas, carrots, corn - mixed into an entire shepherd's pie and then whatever tiny dose I would get of corn from my four ounce serving). I found a recipe for stir fry on Eggface's site that I love but have omitted the baby corn while making it because I was unsure when/if I could have it. Any insights?

As well, I've been reading some recipes on cloud bread. Has anyone tried this before?

Thanks!
