Topic: RE: My First NSV!
I was searching for something to wear to an interview and I know that most of my go to items won't fit now. My mom suggested I try one of her dresses that we both liked at Laura's last time we were there but didn't have my size in. Well I tried it on and it fit! Down 3 dress sizes!!! Very exciting for me!

Glad to here everything went well!
I have a problem with the protein shakes too. I tried the Priemere ones before surgery and thought they tasted like chocolate milk and all was good, but now I can't stand protein shakes. Mostly because the smell is so bad, it's all I can taste. I bought the isopro drinks on the weekend from Zellers. Much cheaper than the big bottles of protein powder so I thought I'd give it a try. You can't taste the protein at all (or smell it!) but it does have a slightly creamy quality in consistency. I'd try that if you don't like the other ones.
Best of luck!

Topic: RE: Liquid Vitamins
I've tried both the Wellesse calcium from Costco and the Shopper's brand, but I found the Shopper's brand agreed better with my stomach and was easier to get down because it's runnier. Those are the only liquid vitamins I've bought. I found that I was able to chew my vitamins enough that they kind of melt into a liquid in your mouth as you chew (same with the sublingual). I use the Centrum chewables (life brand) because it has more iron than other chewables and sublingual B12 from Bariatric Advantage that I bought at the hospital pharmacy. The only thing my pharmacist suggested was that with the Shopper's brand calcium I add vitamin D, so I add one D Drops to my calcium once a day.
I hope that helps.

Topic: RE: always hungry and eating too much
Hey Melissa,
I'm like you that the protein shakes I've tried don't exactly flow with my taste buds and I actually have to drink them while pinching my nose closed. One thing I did find to help get in my protein was making sugar free, calorie free protein hot chocolate. I adapted this recipe.
Use 3/4 cup of skim milk and microwave it till it's nice and hot. In a shaker bottle, mix a bit of protein powder (I use vanilla to give it some nice flavour), 1/4 cup of cold skim milk, a tbsp. of unsweetened cocoa powder, and 3 packets of equal or equivalent of your favourite sweetener. I tried mixing them all together into the hot milk but I found that the protein powder and cocoa didn't fully dissolve, so I mix the cold milk mixture into the hot milk mixture and it's nice and creamy and smooth. Best of all, the cocoa smell is so strong that it covers the smell of the protein which makes me sick. In my hot chocolate I only use a half scoop of protein so I can't smell it as much, but the facts for mine are 0 sugar (except for what's in the milk, but we are allowed milk anyways) 19 grams of protein (10 from powder, 8 from milk, and 1 from cocoa). Just a suggestion as this helped me up my protein until I could get it all in from my food. Good luck!

Hi Nathalie,
My PATTs appointment went really quickly actually. I had a 9 am appointment and had arrived at the clinic at 8:30. All the questions the receptionist asks takes about 20 minutes. Then I my blood work done, height and weight and EKG all at the same time. After I met with the nurse and then the anathesiologist. The longest appointment was the nurse, as she had this full questionnaire set she had to ask. Finally I went for a chest x-ray. I only ever waited 5 to 10 minutes between appointments and was out of the hospital before lunch.
Hope that helps, it sounds like everyone has different experiences....

Great attitude Becky! You'll do great! I also had dr. Starr and am pleased so far with everything. I wish you the best of luck and that you don't find Optifast too bad (I actually really enjoyed the chocolate ones).

Hi Tammy,
Glad to hear you're doing much better. If you're still looking for another water idea, I froze crystal light in an ice cube tray and then broke up the ice cubes with a mallet to create ice chips to suck on. Very helpful in increasing my water. Keep up the good work!

Topic: RE: curbing the cravings???
Hi Mamax5,
It's great your trying to make positive changes now. I don't think completely ignoring your cravings is the best decision, but rerouting your intense thinking about food is better. For example, you said you craved olives and cheese. I don't think that this is an awful snack, especially if it's well portioned, but for me, when I got cravings I would think would I be satisfied if I ate an apple (or substitute another fruit or vegetable) because for me, 8 out of 10 times it was head hunger. If I would be satisfied by eating something else, than I knew I was actually hungry and allow myself to have a small portion (especially if it were a healthy food) and go from there. If an apple wouldn't cut it, than I would refocus my thoughts, i.e. searching the internet, doing something around the house, etc. Just my 2 cents.
The good news is though once you have surgery, your urge to eat does not exist (at least for me) and you can manage cravings better. Just keep your eyes on the prize.
Best of luck

Hi everyone!
So I'm currently resting up in hospital trying to sip on fluids and hoping to go for a walk because the gas pain is awful
but I'm trying to work through it. I just want to thank you all for the kind words and well wishes yesterday. I'm really glad for all the support on this site!

Topic: RE: New Member on Optifast
Hi and welcome to the forum! I'm just finishing my optifast and have in enjoyed the chocolate as is with 500 ml cold water. The vanilla I like to add 500 ml cold water and crush in 3 ice cubes with a variety of flavours: 2 tbps vanilla sugar free syrup with banana extract, 1 tbsp vanilla and 2 tbsp strawberry sugar free syrup. Experiment and see what works best for you. I would double check the package though for instructions. I was under the impression that we shouldn't warm the optifast (perhaps it breaks down the formula?) but I believe the package specifies cold water.
I hope it gets better!
