That's funny!! Mine is a bit older than me - he's 71 but god bless him he looks much younger - still works full-time - he's in good health. His position is listed as 'permanent part-time' where he works but they're so busy right now he's working 5 days one week, 4 the next - but he has a desk job so it's not strenuous other than having to get him up at 5:30 to walk the dog - LOL!!

We have a lot in common - I lived in Red Lion, Dallastown and West York - my whole family was born and raised in York - I moved to the Philly area in '81 - just couldn't find a good-enough paying job to support myself in York - always had to work 2. I don't have any family in York anymore - my brother was the last to leave - he's in Florida now with one sister and my other sister is in Ohio - my mom left York almost 20 years ago to live with us. I don't get out that way too often anymore.

Here we go, I'm Nanette (Nan) born the daughter of a Bread & Cake Man.  And thats how the saga started.  I am 53 years old, had Open RNY at Barix in March of 2006, have lost 265#+/- depending upon the weather and the spices I eat.  If you want to know about plateauing or stalling I've been there repeatedly.  I grew up in Philadelphia but since I started working in King of Prussia I moved to Royersford.  I am currently divorced probably for the last time.  I am a bookkeeper and enjoy detail.  I am nicknamed by others as the nutrition nazi.  Only because I need to know what is in something before I eat it. Carbs don't sit well with me.  I am still heavily addicted to food.  So I avoid social situations with food where grazing is possible. Can't think of anything else to add to that other than if you want to know something, ask me.

Some days your the dog and some days your the hydrant.

Well hello there everyone..

I am Lisa, 37 y.o. INDEPENDENT (Thanks Beth) mother of an 11 year old daughter, Siehara. I had my surgery 2/23/09 and I have lost about 70 lbs so far.  I live in Whitehall, Pa--near Allentown, and right across from the Lehigh Valley Mall.

I work for Aetna insurance as an implementation consultant.  I review benefits for companies against state legislation and determine if what they want is legal in their state and if it is better or worse in other states they may have branches in.  Then, I set it up in Aetna's systems so that when claims come in or members call to check their benefits, it is all there and hopefully correct.  I do NOT like what I am doing right now, but have been with the company for 12 years so I am not leaving.  I AM, however, posting internally for other positions.

I don't have a lot of support at home, not for lack of sympathy.. more for lack of people.  My mom died 4 years ago and my dad just died in September.  My sister could care less... or won't tell me if she does.  I have friends and they support me, but they haven't been there nor have most of them ever had a weight issue so they don't quite get it.

The people on this board are my family.  I would not have gotten as far as I did without them.   They have been here for me through many of my life's struggles.  I was even at Liz's the day after my father died because I didn't think I belonged anywhere BUT there.  If I had stayed home, I would have just sat around numbly.  By going to Liz's, I was with my family and it was the best thing I could have done.  Nobody was surprised to see me walk in the door that day, either.

I was an avid gym rat, but slacked off for a few weeks.  I am back to my rat like behavior and will be going faithfully again!!  I have done some sort of exercise 4 of the last 5 days!! I worked with a trainer in the beginning but had to stop that because I couldn't afford him anymore.  I would like to start that up again, but we'll see.

My daughter is in 5th grade at the Jewish Day School of Allentown.. at least that's where she goes this year.  She is very challenging and causes me a lot of stress at times.  She is diagnosed with ADHD and Oppositional Defiant Disorder as well as anxiety.  OYE.. deep breaths and mommy time are the only things that keep me sane... oh and the happy pills I also take.. LOL.  She takes jazz and tap, is in the school choir and participates in a fantastic program called Girls on the Run.  They train for a 5K run/walk, but also learn all kinds of Girl Power self esteem like stuff.

Guess that's it for me.. except that I, like Steffi, tend to be on the sarcastic side at times.. so if I come off as rude, that's sarcasm.  I will never intentionally be rude to anyone.  I may tell you how it is if you are slacking off, but I am not trying to be rude.. just helpful.

AND YEP.. I'm ON Facebook.. Lisa Friedman Hunt.. or call me 610-504-3867.. or email [email protected]

I realized that I just started posting and never really introduced myself with any level of detail to the group, so, even though I am a newbie, I’m postin’ too.
My name is Maura Mullen (am on FB as well). I am 39 years old – Birthday is July 30th and I’ll be 39 (yes, that was intentional) and my Leo-ish ways show at times. I am an Independent Contractor (self employed), I do mostly IT Project Management work for companies in need of a resource on a temporary basis.
My husband Mark and I live in Yardley, PA - We have been together for 9 years and got married in 2006. We only have furry children – our two Siamese cats Sphynxie & Sparky.   We may adopt at a point in the future – Natural is not an option for us   My weight issues started immediately following high school. I have been a human weight yo yo my entire life.  I met my husband after losing 70 lbs on the really healthy Stacker 2 Ephedra overload approach - gained back 40 – married him – gained back the other 30 and then some more and more… He is my biggest supporter and my best friend.   I come from a large family (not talking about how many of us) and my biggest eye opener was the impact that the weight has had on my mother and two of my brothers with chronic health problems (CHF, HBP, Diabetes, Sleep Ap, etc. ,)  resulting in permanent disability and financial ruins.   I came to Barix 2.5 years to hear Dr. Pupkova speak and Shilpa (my inspiration) spoke about her journey and I made the decision that night. I scheduled an appointment, and fought insurance back and forth, til finally a year later, we started saving for self pay.    I am 4 months out, am close to 60 lost, love that I don’t even recognize myself in the mirror and love these boards and the folks on em!!!

My name is Nicole I am 39 yo and I live in Lancaster with my partner in crime Jason and our 3 cute kitties. I am from NC, moved to Philly in 97 and then to lancaster in 2005. I have been overweight since I was a small child. I remember my first diet in the 4th grade. I truly see my food behaviors as an addiction, and I work daily to learn how to counteract their grip and to make myself a better, saner and healthier person. I had my surgery at Barix 10/2006 with Dr Brader.
I was 360 when I went in and have lost around 180. I have had a little regain, but that is part of the learning curve.
I am currently working as lead clinician at our local methadone center, it is stresful but I love it.
I also have a small private practice of pre and post op WLS patients mostly from the current LGH bariatrics program. I really love working with these folks. I am often on here posting items that I have found to be helpful for me and my patients. I have run a few Beck Chat Groups online for our peopel as well.
This surgery was the hardest and best thing I ever did. I never imagined the amount of emotional work that would need to be done in order to tackle the real reasons why I used food.
I am grateful to have my tool, because no matter how you lose the weight you still have to deal with your issues to keep it off, and at least I have a little extra help from my tool.
