Try using a Q-tip to pack the wound with. My surgeon had my buy the long wooden stick type Q-tip applicators when I had to pack my open wound/seroma for several weeks. Tammy

hi Tammy, That sounds like a great idea. His fingers are just too big, it hurts. Tonight I just cried when he packed it. It's just so tender after manually draining it in the shower. Please don't tell me this will be several weeks. I'm not sure I'll be able to get used to it. I've been at it just over 24 hours and I'm already whining like a big baby. Thanks for the suggestion!! When my surgeon (Dr. Fasching) cut a hole in my incision and it got infected, the hole had to be packed until it completely healed from the inside out and that took several weeks. Don't be surprised if the hole gets bigger before it gets smaller. Tammy

Tammy, I only want good news, so stop posting this nasty stuff. My incision is trying very hard to close already. But we keep packing it with the soaked gauze. I am guessing after a while we don't have to shove the packing so far down if it is healing. Mine hasn't necessarily gotten bigger but it's really hard for me to see it on my hip. I honestly don't like looking at it either, thank god for my SO. I told him about going to the pharmacy this morning before he touches me again. His dang fingers are so huge it's not funny. How long did your doctor cut? Mine did about 2 inches, right over where the drain port was.

He cut about 3/4" along the incision but it got to about the size of a nickle in diameter after it got infected and I had to pack it to keep it open and wick out the seroma fluid so the seroma would heal. Then I had to continue to pack it until the wound healed.

Hi Pat, All of our ailments are important to US. Now a yeast infection? I think I'd rather have more of my incision cut open then to get one of those! I took my one Levaquin last night and my first carton of yogurt this morning. I am so not going to get a yeast infection!!! I'm in with the DVD's and snapple, since I can't move this weekend!!!! You can leave the black lace undies at home. Donna

9 days ago I was diagnosed with an abscess and caries in one of my next-to-the-last molars. It extends into the root. I only discovered this because my filling fell out. The HMO dentist put me on Pen VK, an ancient antibiotic. Had to take it for 10 days. Because the course is so long, I started on plain yoghurt (Greek style) on about day 4. It has 4 probiotics. I'm keeping my fingers crossed. I know that in a couple more weeks when I have the extraction (Yep, extraction--too far gone for root canal!) I'll be back on more antibiotics. Dang! Then, when I get the implant the same thing. . . . I'll be eating yoghurt forever. Good thing I love it. But now enough of my complaints. I'm glad you're going to be taking it easy. It's SO tempting to get up and around the minute we start feeling better. Congratulations on having such a great PS, too.
