Has anyone ever heard of the acti-vac system. I got one today. As you all know I have this very big wound on my pubic bone, and I have no patience for the healing process, so my surgeon has gotten me this machine that I wear 24/7 and it will take less then half the time to heal up perfectly. He origionally said 3-4 months but now that I have this vacume, it should only take like 2-3 weeks. I an so thrilled to have this, it is kinda a pain to have this extra bag that I have to carry, but oh well, in a few weeks the wound will be gone....I was just wondering if anyone has ever used this or ever heard of it. Let me know your experinces with it as well...Thanks a million...

Excellent you have a wound VAC Your doc is correct, it will heal in half the time. No experience personally, but I am a EMT-I and alot of my transports have woundVAC's for various reasons. The wound VAC is a device that uses negative pressure to promote healing in the open area. It is used by formin a air-tight seal over the area and "sucking" all the drainage out(yukky stuff) and pulling new tissue to the top. There is no pain at all during this process unless of course like you said, carrying it around. Somtimes it makes a "farting" type noise lol I've had a few folks say "I swear I didn't just fart".  It's all part of the suction. I wish you fast and healthy healing. Gentle hugs.. TQ

I had the wound vac after my gastric by pass and my tummy tuck and yes it helps your wound close fast its unbelievable how fast you heal with it. The worst of it was carrying that lovaley machine but it was worth it and it helps pain wise because it keeps your wound sucked together it did hurt when they would change it but I had them put saline in the wound to moist it so the packing would not stick and come out easy. I wish you the best you will be amazed on how quick it closes.                                         Lavonda

Oh forgot to tell you it does make a farting sound lol which can be embarrassing out in public but the people that brought me my wound vac said just take a piece of tape and put it on the back where the sound comes from and it wont make that sound it works great.
