Dr. Shuster in the news

I saw that one of his patients passed away here in florida due to adverse affects of anesthesia.  No ones fault..it happends unfortuntely :(  I feel horrible for her family and send them my sympathy. I actually contacted his office in my beginning quest and of course he doesn't use insurance. I just think this sort of thing happends way to often, but why focus on this one girl...appearently she was a A student, 18 yo (went in for breast aug. and died 24 hrs PO) popular, and a med student at UNF.  Suppose the media is trying to prove a point.  Vanity can cost you your life?  We go into this with a chance of knowing EACH time we go under general it could be our last.  Why do we chance it??  For me, I do well.  I am a fast healer (knock on wood) and I seem to sail through  the whole process.  But..I am always keeping it in the back of my mind..this could be the last.  I prepare mentally each and every time and plan ahead.  My sister gets "that talk" every night before each surgery about her handling things if somthing should go wrong. My BIL will pull the plug if I'm deemed brain dead.  It's in my will.  No one else will do this on my behalf and she is furious at her husband that he will do it. But it's my wishes should the horrible occur. We all need to keep that in mind in each of these major surgeries we have.

I'm here in Florida, too.  I read that story, but I didn't know it was Dr Schuster's patient.  The story I read said it was corrective surgery for asymmetry and inverted nipples.  It said she died of malignant hyperthermia which is a rare and horrible possible side effect of general anesthesia.  We had a case at the hospital I work at within the last year but the patient survived with the quick treatment of Dantrolene. Very sad. Megan

I just had my consult with him barely 2 weeks ago. He's conservative in his approach and I felt the consult was handled appropriately. I am in the process of interviewing several P/S and sadly they all contradict each other.....It's sad that this young lady lost her life as a result of an elective procedure and it's complications however, I feel the media may not be providing us with all the details. Complications can happen with any surgery.  May she rest in peace and may Dr Shuster and his staff be kept in our prayers as well. This has to be difficult for all involved.
