Residency Program Questions

I'm in the research phase for plastics. I was definitely going with Dr. Sauceda but then came across a post regarding residency programs here in the US. There are 2 relatively close to me--Georgetown and Johns Hopkins. anyone with experience with either of these 2?
I don't personally know anyone who has used a residency program for plastics and would love to get input from those that have used them. Are there any that I should definitely steer away from and are there ones that do phenomenal work? I would be willing to travel.

I have been checking with the Baylor College of Medicine residency program in Houston.  It sounds like a wonderful program and does add some discount off the regular PS surgeons fees.  Unfortunately, from what I have found out so far...Dr. Sauceda's prices are still MUCH lower.

I used a residency program my arm lift and am very happy.  I am also having a tummy tuck done by the same program in 3/12 weeks.  I originally considered Sauceda but decided against it because of work complications.  The residency program is 2 hours away, and its great if you want to stay in the US, but Dr Sauceda is much cheaper.

I'm still leaning heavily towards Dr. Sauceda. In going over so many of the posts on this board regarding his work and interactions with the patients, I've yet to find a single complaint. I've got a lot to get done--LBL, TT, BA/BL, etc. With so much needing done, price is definitely a consideration.

I am leaving for Mexico 1 week from today, and I am having pretty much the same procedures you are wanting.  I am getting a LBL, BL/BA w/ gummy bear implants, medial thigh lift, and lipo to my tummy, back, thighs, and neck with fat grafting to my butt.  I am paying $14,600 with the $600 being reimbursed for my flight.  That includes 13-14  days in the hotel, 2 to 3 nights in the clinic, 2 sets of garments, and transportation to and from airport and to clinic.  Dr Sauceda said that he is picking me up personally at the airport.

I have used a residency program and have been VERY pleased with their work and after care.  The residents will most likely change each semester  but attending PS doctor will be the same should you decide to have more than one surgery.  I have talked to a few women on here who have used different teaching schools and they have all been very pleased with their work and would do it again in a heartbeat!  The surgeon's price is considerably cheaper than a private  PS but the cost of OR, anesthesia and hospital are standard.  Here are some of the quotes I got from the residency programs I met with.  I ended up using Baylor with Dr Lomonaco's assistance and had multiple procedures so my prices are different, but I wanted to share these quotes so you can have an idea of the savings.  Keep in mind that the prices seem to go up slightly every year (surgeon fees, OR, etc.) because the rates I got at UT in 2008 were less.  These were their 2009 prices.

Baylor:
TT w/anchor cut  - 6030
LBL w/anchor cut - 6200
BL and arm lift (no implant) - 6800
Thighplasty - 4500
Garments and Cosmetassure included.

UT:
TT w/anchor cut -  7300
LBL w/anchor cut - 7900
BL and arm lift (no implant) - 5400
BL and arm lift w/implant - 7300
Thighplasty - 4500
I think Cosmetassure was included here as well.

Hope this helps!

That is the total fee, pricing is based on how long your chief of surgery and resident decide it will take for you. Go to a consult, for me a tt and lift are about $4500 total...that is everything. Prices may vary on how long the surgery takes.

Way more reasonable than I thought it would be!!  I am only not quite 6 months out but I am so obsessed with the idea of plastics!

I will be having an extended abdominoplasty with muscle tightening at the Uof Washinton residency program on the 21st of October and am paying $3680. I am having hernia repair as well but that will be covered by insurance. I think I will ask for the pain pump as well and they are $375 each I believe, and I will need two. I go for my pre op appointment Monday.
I thnk Mexico would of been my next option to explore. I was just worried about leaving my daughter for so long as we do not have any family that could stay with her for such a long time and bringing her and my spouse would of been stressful for me.
