how long did you wait before PS?
I'm currently 6 months out from wls. I have about 25 more lbs to go before I'm done. I know I will need surgery to fix my stomach, thighs, breasts and lower face/neck. Currently I live and work in Colombia, which has fantastic and relatively cheap plastics. I mean a breast augmentation costs about 1000$ american. So I really want to take advantage of it here while I can. My contract ends this June and I could extend it for a year, but I'm really ready to move on. Do you think it would be possible to get the surgery's required this summer or is that just way too soon?
thx
I waited a year to start my consults and then I had my first plastics procedure at about 18 months. I knew I needed to wait a year but I also had a benchmark in mind of where I wanted my weight to be. It was still a little above my goal weight but I knew I would be heartbroken if I went to a consult only to be told I needed to lose more weight.
As to "this summer" I think you are meaning this winter to most of us. Many people have had plastics before the one year mark, for a variety of reasons. So I would say, when you get a little closer to your goal weight talk to the plastic surgeon and if he/she thinks you are ready then go for it.

Thanks, it will be well over 12 months when i have it, more like 15 months.
Here you go in for a consult and they want to do the procedure that same week. Which is a bit off putting. Same thing happened with my wls.
Red, Summer here is the same as in the states. We're in the same hemisphere. So I was thinking maybe end of June.
Thanks!

Hi Estella,
Congratulations on your success thus far! It sounds too me like you could get the PS done before June of 2010! You only have 25 more pounds to go!
I'm interested in your statement about Colombia have "fantastic and relatively cheap plastics". There are no plastic surgeons in Colombia registered with OH.
Can you get me some info? Have you done research or talked with someone that has had surgery done in Colombia?
Diane

Thanks Diane!
Colombia, like most South American countries, is known for plastic surgery being rather common. Everyone here gets something done, even those with relatively little money. I'm lucky enough to work at an elite private school here so all the doctors have children here. I'd guess that at least 90% of the mothers at the school have work done. I've had several friends and colleagues that have had multiple surgeries. I have several connections so I get to check out lots of surgeons.
Colombia doesn't really have anything on these boards. People generally don't travel here for surgery due to the reputation of the situation.
I live on the spine of the Andes which is rather difficult to get to so there's no one really travelling to get work here either. Is there any information specifically that you'd like to know?

yes, please, would you get me the names of doctors and contact info with websites if possible.
Do you have a certain doctor in mind? If so, who?
This may sound ignorant but would the doctors speak english? In your opinion how big of an obstacle would it be for someone who does not speak the language?
thanks,
Diane
