recovery question? how important was recliner?
I rented a lift recliner from a medical supply store for about $120 for a month. I am really glad I did! The first few days after surgery, you need to sit and stand up carefully and the recliner was perfect for that. Also, you don't have to twist to get up, like you would have to do from a couch or bed. It is a matter of personal preference, but it has been heaven for me.
My bed is high and I couldn't prop myself with pillows and get comfortable. I spent weeks in my recliner and used it for all of my procedures. It just made things easier for me. My muscle tightening would not allow me to even come close to laying flat for awhile. Even after I was able to sleep in my bed I had a hard time sitting up because of the muscle tightness. I'm sure it's very doable without one but it just made things easier for me.

I had an extended tummy tuck with muscle tightening and did not need one at all. I slept in the bed from day 1 and had no problem getting in and out. But I did use the big, firm, and square feather pillows (3) that I have on my bed normally for decoration ("european" I think they are called?), to prop up my head and 1 under my knees. From previous surgeries I found that it was important to keep an inflatable donut pillow under my tailbone at all times while propped up! Got a bed sore the time that I did not use it.
Hello...I am having my tummy and breasts done in late January and wondered the same thing...if I needed a recliner or not?
I have one of those glider chairs that also reclines, with the gliding ottoman, but am afraid that it may be hard to get in and out of because it moves all the time. So I have made some calls around town here in Ottawa, and have found a couple of places where I can rent a recliner. Cost is from 60 to 70 dollars for the month and they deliver and pick it up. They offered material or leather...so I am thinking I will get a leather one...might be easier to slide off.
Hope this little bit of info helps.
Take care...Linda

Hi Lisa,
I wish I had gotten myself a recliner. I have been sitting in a what I thought would be a deep comfy chair with ottoman since surgery 17 days ago. It is not as comfortable as I thought . . . I wish the chair was less upright. In the beginning, it made the drains uncomfortable and was hard to get up out of. Now, it folds the binder . . . And, damn my butt hurts. I bought myself a ****yx pillow off Amazon last week finally - made it much better.
I spent the first few nights propped up on the couch but actually feel better in bed now. I use regular pillows at my head and a small one under my knees. My bed is high, has not been a problem.
Best of Luck, Meg

I stayed on the recliner for several days with my pillow on my tummy cause the guy I was staying with has 2 little dogs so it was for protection. I had TT and BA also. Actually it was a couch with recliners on both ends. Bed did feel good when I attempted it maybe 3 or 4 days later.

We have a waterbed that I was in the night after bypass. I tried it last night, the 3rd night after TT/LBL/BR/BL/brachio, and was back in the recliner in under an hour.
I can nap in the waterbed for an hour or so, just not sleep there (wonder if sharing it has something to do with that? Hmmm....)
