Consult - What to expect?

So i have scheduled a consult with a PS this week, but know I will not have surgery until summer (i am a teacher so that will give me time to recover).  Anyway, I am curious as to how the consult goes.  I so not even really know what I should be asking for.  I mean I know that I am having significant problems with my hips and butt when I try to walk or run they just bounce and it physically hurts no matter how much spandex I wear.  I know that I also have some infections under my panni.  I guess my question is when you went for your consult did you tell the PS exactly what you wanted or did you lrt him/her give suggestions.  I know th ePS I have chosed does not like to do LBL b/c you can't get boths sides as tight as possible, but I currently think that is probably my best option.  Sorryto ramble...I don't know why I am nervous about the consult.

I may have had a few extra potholes along the way, but the journey has been good!

  • RNY- Christiana Institute of Advanced Surgery - Dr. Peters 8/09
  • Medial Thigh lift & Brachioplasty - Dr. Macrea 7/2011
  • LBL - Dr. Joseph Michaels (Sibley Memorial) 12/22/2011

Hey there Amy!

Who are you going to see?  Colleen at PMRI recommends Dr. Saunders and Dr. Danyo.
Good luck!

You should think about what bothers you most so you can voice your opinion to the surgeon. The surgeon should discuss what they feel you need and how they would accompli**** Each surgeon will have their own suggestions according to their training, facilities etc. Listen carefully to what they propose and why - it can help you in your decision about what surgery you need and who you may prefer to perform it.

Good luck with your consults - I hope you're planning to see at least 3 surgeons.

Thanks for the insight. I know what is bothering me physically and visually the most, but I wasn't sure who decided the best way to handle it.  (Thanks so much...for some reason this is much more nerve racking than the origianl RNY.)

My appointment is with Dr. MacRae.  I have gone to a couple of her info sessions and I really like her so I thought i would check with her first.  Where are the other 3 based out of?

It looks like round 1 will be this summer.  I am hoping to get the panni removal covered by insurance.  Then I will add abdominalplasty to take care of above the belly button.  She is also going to do a medial thigh lift and round 1 of lipo to my thighs.  Then the next surgery will be my buttocks & thigh lift with additional thigh lipo.  If the panni is covered by insurance we may had arms & boobs to the second surgery.  If not that wil have to wait.
I have to say I am excited but scared at the same time.  This is such something that I never dreamed of doing, but I hope that when all done I will feel comfortable in my own body and I will be able to run comfortably w/out TONS of spandex trying to hold things together.
I told Dr. Macrea that I was not looking to do this until summer and I stil was hoping to lose 15 to 20 pounds, but my wieght loss is VERY slow (maybe a pound or 2 a month if that) She explained that no matter how much I try to exercise and tone what we are looking at removing is honestly skin.  I asked what I could do to avoid te thigh lipo and she said get new genetics (:-) she said that when people carry weight there it is purely genetics.  If I am able to lose the weight (15 - 20) she said I will not lose it from anywhere we are talking about b/c there really isn't much fat in those areas to lose!
I am both excited and scared!  I feel like I know NOTHING about plastics!
