Medical Compression Garment or Flexees

Hello all.. on day 7 and doing really well.  Went out today to walmart and actually got a facial!  It was very nice.

I am wondering on what your dr's are telling you in regards to garmets... my Dr is telling me to get Flexees / Spanx full body suits. I am reading on the internet that the a medical compression garments are much better for swelling..  anyone think there is a major difference?

Flexees seem much cheaper and comfortable but I want what is going to make me the thinnest and less swollen.

What are your thoughts?

Thanks,

Jennifer

Jennifer, you will want to do what makes you more comfortable. I am 13 days out, and at my 1 week check my doc told me the same thing. Since my 1 week check up I have put my original compression garment on twice. I slept with it on the other night, just because I thought that the swelling was a little much, and then 2 days ago I put it on for the same reason. But for the most part I wear my spanx. I haven't looked into the Flexees yet, but my spanx are just the high waisted/mid thigh ones, not the full body ones.
You'll know if your swelling seems to be a bit much and you'll probably want to put it on.

I used Dr. Capella and all compression/ace bandages were removed at 48 hours and was told that I do not need to wear anything from that point on. I had a LBL, arm lift and breast lift. I was also just told that for a bra, I cannot wear underwire for 8 weeks. I know I am swollen but is it necessary to wear a compression garmet or are you using it for comfort under wearing clothes. I can't imagine wearing a pair of jeans with the incision line around my entire waist, it hasn't flattened out much yet.

Recommendations vary by surgeon and extent of surgery.  For the first two weeks, when drains were in, I was in medical compression band.  Now, up to 6 weeks post-op, I am in medical compression band and girdle undergarment (Flexees, spanx - try lots of brands and sizes pre-op).

At a week out my PS said the same that I could switch to a Spanx type and I did. I felt sooooooo much better. ( I got the Assets brand of Spanx at Target, one was $14 and the other was $22)  I actually felt that the compression was tighter on my Spanx and helps with the swelling.  I am almost 6 weeks out and still wear my spanx every day. I tried a couple of times to go with out it and the swelling really did increase those days.  I dont wear it at night and I do just fine.  I also dont wear it if I am wearing tights/hose and they are control top, they seems to work just as well for the swelling.

I hated the medical compression garmet I felt like it was digging into my hips all the time.

Good Luck.
