Let's talk about the "hyper-burn"
In addition to the 5.5 pounds of excess skin, I lost another 6 pounds in two weeks and I'm still retaining some fluid. A poster on another board said that we're in "hyper-burn" for a while as our body strives to heal (and I can assure I didn't eat less!!
)
If this is true, how long does it last?

Be happy.
I do believe it's true for some of us. My weight had been stable for 6 months or so before starting my plastics. I didn't have massive amounts of skin removed from my tummy so after that surgery combined with my BL/BA, I didn't notice but a couple of pounds lost. But, when I had my inner thigh lift in conjunction with my arms, I lost 13 pounds in a month. My surgeon explained that my body was in a hyper-metabolic state trying desperately to heal itself. I had 4 big incisions. I tend to heal quickly. He said that the weight loss probably would not sustain once I was more healed and he was right. I put some of that loss back on. I didn't mind though. I'm still below goal.

It's not really Hyper-burn what ever that word means. Your body needs extra of everything for healing - so extra protein, extra phyconutrients and extra calories for energy. This is NOT a time to diet - this is when you concentrate on giving your body everything it needs to build healthy new tissue to replace the damage caused by surgery. You don't want to deplete stores of nutrients in your body as this delays healing.
I don't know how long it lasts but I assume it's most needed starting during the surgical assault on the body in the operating room and slows as we near the end of healing.

The same thing is happening to me! I am 2 weeks out today. Doc removed 11pds off my stomach and I stepped on the scale this morning and I am 195, surgery day I was 211, so 5pds under after skin removal. I just wonder how much more I will loose, I am by no means trying to lose weight.
I am curious what kind of responses you get.
