I am self pay.  i have no issues and did not bother with ins because they do not pay for cosmetic procedures...

I want a BL and aug but I am only doing the TT for now.  We borrowed from the 401K - it is 8 k i took out and we will be paying 35 a week for 5 years - but the rate is low like 3.5 and all that interest goes back into our own account!!  way better than having a higher rate IMO.

once the tt is paid i will do the boobs... I have my tt on tuesday so I cannot have regrets yet LOL but i do not anticipate any!!

No guilt, no regrets... That being said, I self paid for the LBL, but insurance covered an abdominal hernia. This was beyond fortunate because I ended up with serious complications that most likely would not have been covered by insurance.  We're getting the EOBs from the insurance company and the hospital bills are up to $150k so far.  With out of pocket insurance cap, we're only down $1800 aside from the money for the self-pay part of the surgery.

Most people do NOT have complications, but it is certainly something to think about when you're completely self-pay.  Find out if your insurance will cover complications that are incurred during a self-pay surgery.

We put off the surgery for 2 years so we could save up enough to pay for the entirety of the surgery.  Originally, we were going to take the money out of our home equity, but then the economy took a dump and my husband said no way, we'll save.  It worked for us...

Thank you all very much for taking the time to respond and share your experiences!

While the thought of saving money by going out of the country is tempting, I have a history of blood clots.  It's already a big enough issue for me to contemplate elective surgery with this risk, but the thought of adding on traveling and being out of the country to the mix... oy.  It's just not a risk I'm willing to take at the moment.  And especially not as a single parent.

Ultimately we each just have to do what we're comfortable with and can live with, right?  I suppose that means how it's paid for as well.  Lots of things to weigh.

Again, many thanks!

Well, blood clots were my complication- the first of several related complications actually.  I am extremely grateful and fortunate that my surgeon and hospital are less than 15 minutes (in traffic) from my house. We thought about going abroad and decided that with world class surgeons minutes from our house, it didn't make sense and that the extra money we'd spend more than paid off the ease of mind.

My insurance did not pay for my WLS -- so I never even considered that it would pay for my PS.

I self-paid locally for a brachioplasty and breast lift last month --- and am saving for a tummy tuck later this year.

I self-paid 12,000 for my band
I sel-paid 9,000 for my plastic surgery

I drive a car that is 7 years old ---- opted for a new life in place of a new car--- LOL
