Having Second Thoughts after Reading About Mickie's Death!
I had a face lift, but I decided after my FL surgery that I didn't want to push my luck. A body lift and/or a tummy tuck is necessary for some, just for physical comfort or emotional comfort. I have drapey skin on my thighs and belly and even on my back, but I made a conscious decision that I didn't want to risk going under the knife again. I look good in my clothes, and anyone who sees me naked already loves me!.
I have to admit that I look in the mirror and pull the tummy up to see what it would look like all tight and flat, but then I let it go - both literally and figuratively. Major surgery is major, and they don't have you sign all those waivers and legal papers for nothing.

I did mention to a couple of people, that if something happened, I wouldn't know about it. Just being honest, I thought about the risk, but like the DS, I wanted the surgery to fix me. I feel so bad for Mickie's family and especially her daughter, but the end decision is for you and your life.
As I posted on another thread yesterday. I did the PS for me and only me. I'm very happy with my results and glad that I did it.
Talk to your doctor about problems that can happen and how they are setup to handle those incidents. I know Dr S and I talked about a few things before hand.

What happened to Mickie is so sad and such a tragedy. We look at the risks going into these elective surgeries but a lot of times we are so eager to make the changes that we really don't acknowlegde the seriousness of it all. There are statistics, they are relatively low but none the less they are there and some of us fall into those stats. We tend to think it won't happen to us.
With all of that being said, I think one of the most important things to look at are any medications you might be currently taking. You definitely need to tell your surgeon any and all medications and vitamins that you take prior to having any procedure. If you take NSAIDS or any blood thinners you need to know that you have a greater risk for bleeding. If you take Vitamin E and Vitamin C you might be advised to discontinue those vitamins prior to surgery. If you take birth control you need to be aware that it can cause an increase in the risk of developing a blood clot. The list goes on and on. Just be sure to talk to your surgeon about your vitamins and your meds and come up with a plan that makes the risks less for yourself. I am not saying that any of these things caused Mickie's death but I just want to point out that it's very important for your surgeon to know exactly what you are taking and the amounts.

Hello, I haven't been on the boards in a while. But, I stumbled across your topic above. I too am wanting surgery but I am literally scared to death. I am researching and have been researching for years. I am scared this is how I will die and it is not what I want. But, I have said if this is how the Lord takes me then ok. But, I DO NOT want to leave behind two innocent children and I understand how you feel. That is why it is important to know about your surgeon, check credentials, ask questions, speak with former patients, etc. before just having surgery.
Good Luck
