Hair Loss and surgery??? Will it happen again??

My TT is finally scheduled for the end of August and now I am wondering if I will experience hair loss similar to when I had my gastric by-pass. I know I experienced some hair loss then because of lack of nutrients, but I was also told it was due to anesthesia.  Well this time I wont be lacking nutrients but I will have anesthesia... So I was wondering if I should expect any hair loss.   Anyone out there have any hair loss after plastics??? Thanks!!!

I'm 7 weeks post plastics and no hair loss yet, but I've had hair loss every time I've had general anesthesia.

I lost hair after my tt. It started about 3 months out and kept going for about a month.

Good luck with your surgery!!

My mom reminded me to start biotin before my surgery.  Don't know if that was it or not, but I've had NO hair loss!  I'm not 2 months out.

I never stopped losing my hair post-WLS, but I had my plastics under twilight anesthesia with a nerve block, and so I haven't had an increase in loss.  If anything, it is getting a little better, because I'm getting more protein and fresh produce in my diet now.

I have had 11 surgeries in my life (8 joint surgeries due to arthritis, 1 gall bladder removal, 1 RNY, and 1 LBL) and only  had hair loss with the RNY.

The stress of surgery and anesthesia can cause hair loss, but it should not be anywhere close to the scale it was with the RNY.

RNY 10/14/08 LBL 6/14/11    135 pounds lost, after bounceback regain.  And I am OK with that.  It enabled me to have double hip double knee replacements in the 9 month periond between Oct 2011 and June 2012.

Thanks Anna!  I myself have had 8 major surgeries and dont recall any major hair loss aside from my RNY!  With my RNY hair loss started at month 3 post op and continued for 3 months... Handfuls when washing my hair.  Luckily I have semi thick hair and it was NOT noticed by anyone other than myself!  Fingers crossed that it is minimal loss this time...going to increase my protein and be in the best health I can before and after the surgery!!!  I'm getting excited!!! less than 6 weeks!

I haven't had my TT yet, so I can't answer your question, but I just wanted to say hi neighbor! I live in New Windsor also- moving to Campbell Hall (a whole 4 miles, lol) in a week.. But you are the first truly "local" person I have met on here! We should have coffee or something!

I am still loving life with my sleeve! Been maintaining at or below goal for over 4 years!
