Salt..

So, I have been eating less overall an less salt in general to stave off extra swelling. For some my diet would prob still have too much salt, but here is my thing... Since lowering the salt in my diet my blood pressure is low- around 90/60.. My normal is closer to 105/75.. I have been light headed on standing.. Any suggestions for raising the blood pressure w/o adding to the swell?

You may have to just live with the swelling.

The only thing I've ever been told is increase the salt. If there is another solution, I'd love to hear it too. My blood pressure has been super low too. It's such a strange concept for me considering I was on high blood pressure meds pre-WLS.

hmmm....lowering salt intake - that is a great tip in order to keep the swelling at bay.

I've read about people nearly passing out when they remove their compression garments to take their showers because (I guess) the blood pressure changes when the blood can circulate more freely (if that makes sense).  Is your compression garment too tight maybe?

Mine isn't too tight since I switched it.. And the dizziness is always with it on.. Since it's always on, lol.. Maybe I will start salting things again, as preop salt never bloated me up at all...

Are you well hydrated Babe?

What is your baseline BP like?

I am drinking lots.. Can barely eat, so drinking all day long- which really sucks at the moment, since the one toilet in our apt is broken! My pressure at the dr the other day was 92/62, and I have been monitoring it at home since.. Because it seemed low to me even though the nurse want concerned at all. And it has been a few points lower than that usually. Before the TT I was pretty consistent at about 15 higher on both diastolic and systolic.

I had high blood pressure before my sleeve too, so this is all wacky to me! Lmao

I had hypertension (on medications) when I was morbidly obese and now at goal - B/P is low and I've been off B/P meds for 2 years.  I eat some food with salt (olives, nuts, some PB, 100% whole wheat crackers, etc.)  I don't use the salt shaker.

It is good to increase your fluids (I try for 100+ oz a day), especially water - not carbonated beverages.

Get up slower and stand still a second or two.  I also eat every 3-4 hours (protein + veggie, fruit or whole grain).  Keeps my blood sugars even and I don't get so dizzy or shaky.

I have low blood pressure at this point as well.  I have been adviced by my cardiologist to NEVER eliminate or reduce my salt.  I take meds and after srugery I am usually at around 90/60 or lower.  I take meds to raise my Blood Pressure (midrodin).

I have just decided that swelling be what it is I have to have salt.
