Hernia repair and Plastics and Freaking out - need support

So I'll talk to my PS today about the plastics, then I guess he and my surgeon will set a date.  Could be tomorrow, could be later this week.  I'm hoping to delay it since I haven't had another incident with the hernia since last Wednesday, and we're still waiting to hear from the insurance.  This whole thing is totally freaking me out!  I'm scared and distracted and just an emotional wreck, and I'm not usually like this.  I'm a strong person, I've been through RNY, my two sons having serious illnesses and years of figuring out what was wrong, going to doctors, having their own surgeries.  I went from not being able to walk 1/4 mile to completing a 5K, a 12K, and four half marathons.  So why am I so distraught over this surgery?????

because like all women, we hate when we aren't totally in control of the situation.  You need to realize that by having this surgery you are taking the time to take care of yourself.  Be as patient and kind to yourself as you would be with a loved one.  If you don't take care of yourself, you can't take care of anyone else.  Good thought coming your way.

Thank Kate.  You are probably right about the control thing.

I am in a similar situation...I have PS next Friday and am starting to get nervous.  I go for my pre-op appointment on Friday and plan on discussing this with my dr.  He was excellent before my RNY procedure.  I started crying in his office, telling him I was scared to death of the procedure.  I knew I wanted it, but just didn't want to go through with the surgery part.  He told me I was having anxiety and it is very common before surgery.  He gave me some anxiety pills to help the days prior to the surgery.  I am hoping he will do it again, because my nerves are shot!

Good luck!

Good luck to you too!  What are you having done?  I think a lot of it is the uncertainty of when, and having it at a bad time in terms of work and home.  I had planned for Oct. and I'm a planner, so it's tough to just not know.
