If you are ex-Navy, you've been subject to way more pain than a drain removal! :) Seriously, for me I didn't feel it at all. I even pulled out one of my own. Some describe a "weird" pulling sensation, but not pain at all. Very rarely I hear of someone saying it hurts, but I wouldn't anticipate it. They normally tell you to blow out really hard on the count of three while they pull it and that distracts you enough to help. They simply snip the stitch holding it in and then do what I just mentioned.

Good luck. I'm sure you'll be fine!

I had 4 drains and each had about a foot of tubing inside me. It hurt a little at first to pull on the dried goop scab that was around the opening in my skin but then it just feels strange as the tubing comes out. Definitely not painful just not something I had ever felt before.
.... Then once they're out !!!

I can only speak for the drain I had for RNY as I am not having my TT or BL until 1/20, but I made sure I took some of my pain medication the morning I got my drain out and I could barely feel it....that helped me.

No pain what so ever. Your a lot number in that area than you think. One of mine dragged across a nerve and gave me a sensation but not painful. Don't give it another thought. Piece of cake!!!

Out of the 5 they pulled out of me, 3 I didn't really feel, 1 was strange like other people are saying, and 1 did sting a little bit. Really no big deal at all, if someone drives you to your appointment when the drains are to be removed take a pain pill like Lorilea suggested and that will maybe help you out some.

I was planning on taking some left over pain meds before I went into the doctors office. But I forgot to bring them with me.

My doctor said that it was going to hurt. He said especially the ones that are in the groin area. He told me to prepare myself. I let it out at that point. I told him I wish I would have taken some pain meds. He then said "If you would like. I can leave them in for another week and you can come back when you are ready". I told him it was quite alright...I'll grinn and bear it. I only felt a little sting when he removed the last one.

I realized afterwords that he was having some fun at my expense.

It was no big deal.

No pain for me when they were removed. One had a strange slightly uncomfortable or unsettling feeling as it was pulled out.

Procedure is straightforward. They snip any stitches or threads that might be holding drain in place and then slowly pull the drain out.  There can be quite a bit of drain inside the body. I just looked away while they did it. I couldnt feel it and I didnt want to freak myself out by seeing it.  You might ooze a bit from the drain site for a couple days or so. Just keep it covered with gauze.

I had mine pulled out by the nurse while standing in a hot shower.  No real pain.

I came home last week with a drain coming out my right knee and one in my groin.  I removed the stitches and pulled them out myself.  I'm a real wimp but got through it quickly.

Take some Tylenol before you go.  You'll be fine tough guy!  :)
