Topic: RE: Hope for pregnancy after RNY
Thank you so much for this! My husband & I have been married for 13 (almost 14) years and have tried to get pregnant for most of those years. We too did fertility treatments. 3 cycles of Repronex and Gonal-F. We did the IUI, etc. Even had my tubes checked to make sure there were no blockages. (It took massive dosages of the fertility drugs to get my eggs to develop.)
The fertility doctor said if I lose weight I should be able to conceive. One of the reasons I had RNY was to increase the chances of pregnancy. I've got 16 months left before we can start trying again.
I do have one son that I conceived at a very young age (he's 17 years old now) before I gained weight due to the PCOS.

Topic: RE: Dark skin around neck
I also have the dark ring on my neck. Thankfully it is on the back of my neck so my hair hides it. Unfortunately though, I've noticed it trying to come around the left side of my neck. I'm only 2 months out so I can't say yet if weight loss will help it or not.
As for the skin tags, I had a lot removed by a dermatologist last year. It was so easy. They litterally did it in their office. Most of them had no pain at all. The ones that I did feel were just little stings. Not bad at all. She removed all fo them for $115. My neck looks so much better!!!
I'm going to check into the treatment for the dark spots. I hate that so much!!!

You're welcome! And I do know how you feel - Mine is kind of a grayish color and I feel like it looks like I haven't washed my neck! I'm actually going to see my dermatologist about treatment for it. Take care!

Fantastic - thanks for the great info. I am excited to know that there is an actual name for it. I am going to the website you mentioned and read about it. It makes me self conscious and I get so hot when I wear my hair down to cover it up when I go anywhere. I'm sure you know where I'm coming from :) thanks again

Topic: good food for suffering with PCOS
I was wondering if anyone of you knew of a cookbook I can purchase or foods I shold be eating more of since I have PCOS. I've read on some of the bulletins and on soulcysters that we should be eating a more low carb diet, any suggestions???
Topic: RE: Fat Burners fact or Fiction ? any comments ?
I have been dealing with PCOS for 5yrs. I have tried every diet pill. not a thing worked. But it is different for everyone. The only thing that seemed to work...but for me only a short time, was a low carb or a low GI diet.
Topic: RE: Dark skin around neck
I was diagnoed with PCOS over 20 years ago, but just started getting the darker skin around my neck within the last few years. I found out this is something called acanthosis nigricans. I was told by my dermatologist that they believe it is a result of the insulin resistance syndrome people with PCOS suffer from. This link from the American Osteopathic College of Dermatology might help you somewhat: http://www.aocd.org/skin/dermatologic_diseases/acanthosis_nigrica.html. They talk about causes and treatment options too. My dermatologist told me it could be reversible, along with the PCOS, with weight loss. Hope this helps!
Topic: RE: Who treats you for PCOS?
i dont have insurance so im at a clinic with charity care. they dont have any real kind of help. i see a nurse practitioner who simply prescribed metformin and monitors me. the GYN never listens and basically says well if you want to get pregnant lose weight. i say i dont want to get pregnant i want to reduce some of my symptoms so i can lose weight first and THEN try to get pregnant. then he says oh......we dont do that here. apparently a UNIVERSITY hospital doesnt keep things like that for its clinic patients. you think as a teaching hospital it would be better for us.
