8 WEEKS OUT AND STILL GETTING SICK!!!
Hi-
This is my first time on this web site but I am wondering if anyone else still gets sick(vomits) after eating meals at 8 weeks after surgery? I can only eat very tiny bits and one wrong bite I am done with the meal and in the bathroom getting sick. Is this normal or should I call my doctor? Also, I seem to have quit losing weight. I started this journey weighing in at 222 and again, 8 weeks out, I am at 190. I have been at 190 for 3 weeks. What do you think?
Thanks for your help!
Steph
Usually, vomiting is from eating too much. We had this surgery to "only eat very tiny bits". Are you measuring food?
Also, how many protein shakes are you drinking? If you're getting good quality fuel to fuel weight loss, you won't lose as well. Get some good quality protein from VitaLady.com, mis 1.5 scoops with 4 oz water, add ice, and fuel your body!
Hi,
I am 8 weeks post op, as well. I had my surgery on May 23, 2006. I lost 10 pounds prior to surgery. Therefore, I was 218 on the day of surgery. I am now 194. I am so..frustrated, because I have been at this weight for three weeks. I know I am blowing it. I am experimenting with food. I found I can eat bacon, sausage and chips. OMG! I start my day with 2 sticks of cheese, for lunch I have turkey slices and cheese or pasta, for dinner I find whatever ...pasta, chicken. I found that I can eat protien bars that have almost zero sugar alcohol. I eat one in between lunch and dinner. I have been tracking my calories on fitday.com and found that I am consuming 1100 calories. No wonder I'm not losing! I'm frustrated with myself! I have to stop experimenting and stop the cheese. Just try fruit, vegtables, and protein.
As far as vomiting....that has stopped. As long as I don't eat more than 5 oz's. I know I am only suppose to eat 3 oz, but found I can go more.
I am getting so...scared, so I'm going to do better tommorow.
Please call your doctor...Just to be safe. Be honest with what you have been eating. I know it's embarrassing, but I'm sure he's or she's heard it all.
sorry it's so long. I guess I wanted to vent.

Please be careful! Experimenting with food is OK, bu****ch the carbs! Mr Dr. and nutritionist say that the most important item to eat is PROTEIN! Make sure you're drinking those drinks. My Dr. is also VERY south beach diet orientated. Pasta is BAD. Bread is BAD (I still can't eat bread). Bacon and sausage are protein, but also loaded with fat.
You also need to maintain your water. I was in a slump, and I noticed that I had drastically cut back on water. Now that I'm drinking a lot again, the weight is starting to move off.
I can't believe you can eat chips! I've tried (as we all will try things we're not supposed to at one time or another) - I'm 8 months out, and still can't do it. Nor can I have breads. They seem to just sit in my pouch like a lump.
Please be careful, and by the way - Fruit can be high in sugar!
Hi Steph well I am about 6.5 months out now but felt the same way about 8 weeks out I puked for everything I ate but then I started to very careful about chewing and staying away from anything with fat in it.As for the stall it is your body adjusting to the weight loss, have you been keeping your measurements more then likely you are losing inches right now.I lost about 21lbs in the first 2 weeks then nothing for 3 weeks then I measured and found out I had actually lost about 25 inches total in my body. And trust me it will not be your last stall.I just got over one that was 4 weeks long but then I lost 21 inches in 2 weeks and then dropped 10lbs in 3 days.So it does get better and right now you are probably going thru the phase of this is not going to work for me and we all do so just wait it does get better.I have lost 109lbs total.19 befor wls and 90 since wls.and a total of 81 inches in my body.It will get better.

My surgeon and NUT both said if you are vomiting there is something wrong. Either you are eating too much or too quickly or you have a stricture/blockage etc. I would make sure you are measuring your food, eating a few bites and putting the fork down - I am only a month out but I "time" myself by eating during commercials and not eating during the tv show. Also I would keep a food journal - are certain foods making you sick?? If you continute to throwup you need to contact your surgeon!!!
I am 6 weeks out and was still vomiting very badly, I measured my food, took small bites, took over 20 minutes to eat and still vomited. I had to go back to the hospital I started vomiting blood, I had a stricture. I have been back home three days now and feel good, Sometimes even when you do things right you still vomit, call your Dr and ask to come in for a visit. I was telling my Dr I was vomiting and still didnt get to be checked for a stricture untill I had to come in for the blood. Insist on getting checked.
I was so dehydrated my kidneys were shutting down. I was so sick from vomiting, I had not even noticed that I wasn't going to the bathroom very much.
I was not too concerned until your second post where you mentioned some "bad habits" you are trying to get rid of. What kind of "bad habits"? You can tell us. We promise not to condemn you!! We've ALL been there and done probably whatever it is you are doing. We are here to help one another, but cannot help if we are not totally honest... Vomiting this far along is something to be concerned about, though... Let us know how you are doing now!!
Hugs, Pam
I stalled aout around that time, too. It is frustrating, but then I noticed that it started coming off again. Are you cleared to exercise yet? I had recurring infections in the incision near the bellybutton, so I couldn't exercise or lift more than 10lbs for almost 3 months. But once I started, the weight started flying off!!
DEFINATELY be concerned about the vomiting. Not only can it be a stricture, but I've read that vomiting can cause damage to the staple line. My Dr. says to call ANYTIME and EVERYTIME vomiting happens.
And please, dont forget why you had this surgery. Susan Maria (bariatriceating.com) says it all! The pouch is our TOOL. Only POUCH WORTHY foods should have access to it!
