Anyone regret having the RNY Bypass surgery???  Why? Is it true you only have 1 year to lose weight then it becomes harder after the first year? Any complications? Thanks

I've lost 99 pounds in the first year (as of July 11, this year...my one year surgeversary) and that's more than i thought I needed to lose...So to answer your question. Nope. No regrets.

I am five weeks into my recovery and it has been very difficult.  Though I prepared mentally and physically before the surgery I was not prepared for the tole this has taken on my entire being - both emotionally and physically.  I have been experiencing severe depression and have felt like I am walking around in a continual "panic attack."  I had complications after surgery, nothing too serious, and feel behind schedule.  Though I initially was having "grave" doubts about my decision to have this surgery (RNY), my attitude is improving and more positive.  I keep hearing that the first three months are the worst and then after that I'll feel back to "normal" and will be very happy with my decision (I hope so!) I have lost a total of 73 pounds since November 2006 (26 before and 47 pounds since surgery on 5/29/07).  I would like to loose 117 more pounds...seems daunting, but now possible.  I hope this helps.

There is a blog on my profile about hibernation symdrome that you might find helpful.  I am just getting over that, and I had my surgery a few days after you did.  Prayers and hugs, Sandi

Hi Julie!  I hope you feel better and better.  Did I read that right, you've lost 47 lbs in five weeks?  That is amazing!  How awesome!

Hi Robin, Yes, 47 pounds!  However, I still feel pretty miserable and haven't been able to "absorbe" this mentally.  I am trying to find positive things to focus on physically - not appearance wise.  For example, I am able to ride a bike without smooshing the tires, wear a seatbelt more comfortably and hop out of the bathtub in a flash  Thanks for your encouragement and the smile .  Julie

I was 5 months out as of June 30, and have lost 71 pounds. I can't speak to the difficulty of loss after the first year, but from what I have read from others whose opinions I value greatly, it does get harder to get it off and keep it off. Real life tends to creep in and make it tough on us! That said...I have also read that it is absolutely possible to work our pouch anytime we are ready to do so. I have had no complications thus far, and don't foresee any provided I remain compliant to my surgeon's orders...although there are no guarantees, in life or WLS! I have zero regrets. This surgery has changed my life. ~Suz

Both my wife and I had RNY done in March of this year, and it has been a good experience for both of us.  Once we got through the first couple months, things got alot better.  Losing the weight has been wonderful, but not every day is a GREAT day.  You have some days that are better than others.  Would we do it again, yes.  Do we tell other people to do it?  We tell them it was good for us, but they need to make the decision on their own after doing their homework. --Dave
