Stalling? Plateau? Slowing down? Are you out there moving??? I am getting up on my soapbox to shout that exercise yields RESULTS. I am 8 months out and was told at six months by my doc that my weight loss would be slowing down. In the last 6 weeks I have lost 18 pounds. And we are in the middle of the holiday season people! And more importantly, my body fat percentage went from 31.7% to (drum roll, please....) 29.6%!!! Guess what people - that's ACCEPTABLE! I am no longer considered obese!!! Thats right. And just 8 months ago I weighed almost 350lbs and was super morbidly obese.  ** Just a note on scale weight and BMI, they are not good indicators if you have a lot of muscle mass. Since I strength train, I believe my body fat percentage is the best indicator of whether or not I am obese. By BMI standards, I am still obese. I owe my success to exercise. And if you are disappointed with your results, I highly suggest you look at your fitness routine.  Ok, I will step off of my soapbox now (Please excuse the exuberance, I am still on the endorphin high from my morning workout. WOOT!!!)

I need to get back in exercise. The new BF is helping with that, but still. And today I woke up with the asthma/sniffles/coughing that should keep me busy for two weeks. Boo. Jess, I'm all kinds of proud! Keep up the good work!

That is awesome!!! You should shout from the rooftops there in Chicago!!  I know that my stalls that occur would be better off with me exercising.  All I am getting in is small walks.  My back doctor said he wants me to start swimming.  I need to look into that.  A friend has been going to classes at the Y and she says they really work your butt off.  I have my meeting with the exercise physiologist on 12/27 and will take her advice also. Keep up the great work!!!!

That is great news!  Congrats on the Acceptable range!  From what I've heard from doctors - you can appear obese on the BMI scale - but that scale does not take into effect your muscle mass.  So you can be right where you are.  Obese and not at the same time!

I know that I started working out myself around 5 weeks post op.  There is a fitness club where I work so for every lunch period - I go there and work out.  I did just have a training session so now I'll be strength training M-W-F, on Tues I'll use the eliptical and Thur I have a treadmill 'trekking' class.  My weight loss has picked up too!  And you feel better afterwards!

Wow! What an inspiring post. Makes me want to get out there and get to the gym. I've been really procrasting, but it might just be the nudge I needed.

Thanks!

I wish I could go to the gym. My husband works 4 jobs and I stay home with the girls. I never have time for just myself. So what I try to do is keep moving. I try not to sit on the couch all day. Well I have to sit some times to feed the baby or watch Days of our Lives. But for the most part I just keep moving. In the old days I would just lay all day now I dont need to sit and be still. Hopefully I could figure some way to get to the gym or after the holidays get a tredmill for my dining room.  I know that it would help me and be good for me!!!!!  Thanks Jessica Christine

Hey Christine - There is plenty you can do at home that is cheap. Try sitting on a stability ball whenever you sit (having to stabilize on the ball strengthens your core - and the kids think the ball is fun). I got mine for $13 at Walmart (you can put it on your x-mas list!)Also, check out Craigs List. I've seen people who are willing to give away a treadmill if you will just go get it out of their house. I just started asking everyone I knew who had a treadmill that they didn't want anymore. Lots of people buy them and never use them. Within two weeks I had one for free (just had to lug the damn thing out of their house and into mine!)
