Last Meals (especially holiday ones)

First 3 months of my 6 month diet I dropped 20 pounds (go me!)

and then... holiday****

This weekend (starting with Friday) has been fairly bad.
Friday we had a huge carry in at work with tons of desserts and crock pots full of fattening things.

Without even blinking an eye, I filled up my plate (at first very small amounts) but after hearing "Tony did you try my _____" I ended up with 2 plates.
As I walked to my seat I said to myself "this wll be my last Halloween eating like this... enjoy it, and then get back on the horse. (funny thing is.. I did manage to stay away from ALL of the halloween candy)   (just need to keep that will powere at home, because someone bought a 22 pack of FULL SIZE candy bars on sale... I could kill him, but it's kinda fun showing what will power I have)

but... back to my topic..  I know I don't want to spend the next 90 days giving in to "last supper" excuses.. but at the same time do I?

Anyone else go through the holidays knowing they'd be the last time they could spluge?  I'm 80% jump in feet first, get used to not eating like a maniac during the holidays... but there's that 20% that's saying eat eat eat!

how'd you handle it?

Tony,

Think you have your answer in your signature line "...damned if you do and damned if you don't..."

Never, and I mean NEVER, trust a fart!!

My surgery date is one week before Thanksgiving.  Someone said, "Oh, you won't be able to eat at Thanksgiving or Christmas."  My reply, " I have had over 30 years of being able to eat all that crap (some really good crap too) and look where I am, I'll be fine.

I have been working real hard on breakning by dependancy on food, as I am sure you have been too.  This will be the ultimate test.  If you can't resist now what about next year?

We have to make good choices about what we put in our pouches why wait until after surgery to start that?  Is it worth possibly complicating your surgery just to try so and so's _____?

You could just lie and say, "Yeah, I had a bite and it was great, I'll have to get that recipe from you."

You gotta do what is right for you.  Not easy, good luck.  I am pullin' for ya.

I know that all those snacks can be tempting, trust me been there and done that. However, once I decided to have the rny, and got my surgery date everyone kept saying what are you going to have for your last meal? I thought about it for some time and then had a realization. How many times did I diet and say "just one last double cheeseburger", from that moment on I vowed there would be no last splurge of food. Food had controlled me for so many years, but at that point I took control and have never regretted. I am 5 months post op, have lost 96 pounds and am only 30 pounds from my goal. I believe that making the decision to not have the "last meal" is what has made me so successful in my weight loss. Good luck to you.

I planned to have my ONE last meal before surgery of Chinese food, fried rice, fried shrimp, crab rangoons, chicken fingers, all the 'bad' stuff. I never went for the soups and spring rolls, etc! Well the time came to have it and I decided that I had worked too hard to lose the 40 lbs that I did before surgery! So, I skipped the last meal and had my tasty piece of baked salmon before bowel prep day. No regrets.

I had a last meal the night before surgery and enjoued every bit of it!  And I did so because I knew I would never eat like that again!

I would suggest planning a nice "splurge" meal for before your surgery (a week or so before surgery, so that you can stick to the 2 week low-sugar, low-fat regimen that Dr Rita suggests) -- we went to Ruth's Chris steakhouse in Columbus for an early birthday dinner for me (had filet mignon as an entree and creme brulee for dessert) -- but then trying to exercise some "moderation" during the holidays.  For me, trying to eat smaller portions and having to turn down a lot of the treats (I had several food-oriented social events, but no holidays before my surgery) was good "practice" for being post-op.  I think, too, it was good practice for how I eat now (14 months post-op)... being able to have an occasional treat, but having to turn down many things that I know I should not eat.  (I *can* eat almost anything (in small amounts, of course) without getting sick).

Just my 2 cent's worth... which, in this ecomony, is now actually only worth about a penny...

Here's some tips for what they are worth.
At your holiday parties/functions have a VERY LARGE glass of water before so you will be full before you go there. Then look over the food and then chose a LITTLE of what ever you want. If you would normally take 2-4 of something only take 1 and NO SECONDS!!!!!!!!!!!! When you do end up with 2 plates of food just take one BITE of each item not the whold portion that is on your plate.
As far as the 'last supper' I also had a planned date about a week before my date and enjoyer every bite.
I didn't have to worry about the holiday's before I had them right after. I had Thanksgiving dinner at my house with me coking one week after RNY.
Keep looking at the big picture. Try to at least maintain during the holidays and NOT GAIN.
Good Luck,
Robin
