(x-post) Anyone else NOT cheat on their pre-op liquid diet??
Hey Guys-
This is my first post here ever. A night or two ago I read a post with people struggling with the pre-op liquid diet (Which I TOTALLY understand - I am almost done with day 10), and I was really discouraged because it seemed like everyone cheated on their diet and there were no ramifications. I just really wanted to hear from other people that followed the plan and get a little encouragement. It really put a stick in my gears reading that and made me feel like I was the only one, and wonder if it's actually worth it. I'd really appreciate hearing from some other people that stuck it out the whole time so I know I'm not alone!!

Thank you - Alea
I did not cheat at all during my pre-op liquid diet. I thought if I did, I wouldn't get the surgery for some reason. I waited almost 2 years of pre-op stuff and I didn't want to ruin it with one stupid cheat. I know that sounds corny but that is just how I am. Good luck with everything.

I also did NOT cheat on my pre-op diet. I will admitt it was very hard the first few days. I knew if I couldn't committ myself to teh diet how was I going to committ myself to the lifestyle change. I decided that I was going to stick to the diet and do it right. I did. and I believe it's totallu worth being faithful with the pre-op diet. Keep up the good work!. and Good luck with everything! Happy New Year!
welcome alea!
i honestly did NOT cheat on my pre-op diet. i work in a surgical department and have seen weight loss surgery patients come out of the operating room just a quick as they went in. why? because they did not stick to their preop diet. see, the preop diet helps shrink your liver. if your liver is fatty/still enlarged (which us larger folks have) it will be in the way and pose a great risk of injury to it, even when using the retractors. this is one of the first things that is looked at when the laparoscopes are inserted. if the liver is enlarged to where it will pose a risk, the surgeon pulls out the scopes and surgery is cancelled. the patient has to do the diet again and is rescheduled for later date. some additional testing may be ordered by the surgeon just to be sure that there are no issues going on w/ your liver, just to be on the safe side. now granted someone MAY have an abnormally fatty liver and the diet didnt quite shrink it down enough. but 99.9% of the time, its because the patient didnt do or stick w/ the pre-op diet.
to be on the safe side, i actually did my diet for 3 weeks instead of 2...thats just me because of murphys law! i would have been the one w/ the abnormally fatty liver!
so, in short, the preop diet is for your safety, not for the sadistic pleasure of your surgeon.
take care and good luck!

I was pretty nervous about surgery and did not want to add any additional risks so I followed my pre-op diet. I was on a liquid diet for 4 weeks and was tempted to cheat, but after the 1st week the temptations were not as strong,
I figured this was the beginning of my journey and if I cheated then what was to stop me from cheating later.
You are not alone and it will be worth it in the end. Good luck.
